Karen Margulis of Kem Studio
Thank you for your interest! I hope you enjoy looking at my paintings. I work mostly in the medium of soft pastel using the highest quality pastels on archival paper. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about my work.
Traveling, for me creates the inspiration for my paintings. I try to capture the beauty and feeling of each place I visit. Each painting becomes another page in a crapbookof my travels. Perhaps one of my favorite places is also one of yours.
One of the reasons that pastel paintings are so beautifully unique is the quality of the pure color particles and how they can catch and reflect light. I have found that this quality of pastels allow me to best capture my vision of the landscapes I visit.

About Me
I have been involved in art all of my life and knew I wanted to be an artist when I won my first art contest at age five! I studied art at the University of Florida and Florida Atlantic University. I have continued to take classes and workshops in a variety of mediums including photography, watercolor and most recently pastel. I have illustrated a French Language textbook and am now working on my first children book.
About My Art
I have worked in a variety of mediums including acrylic, oil and watercolor. I spent several years immersed in photography, taking classes and workshops. But it wasn until recently when I took a one-day pastel workshop, that I discovered the medium that suits me best. I love color, and the fresh and brilliant colors of pastels makes them a joy to work with. I work mainly from photographs, drawing on my photography background. Many of my paintings are from some of my favorite photographs. I am now interested in doing more plein air painting. I have several trips and workshops planned so look for my plein air works soon.

I have started my own blog 'Color My World', dedicated to my artwork and travels. I am posting a different painting every day along with current works in progress.
