Child Welfare League of America
Children's Memorial Flag Charity Auction
April 15-22, 2005
View Our Auction Items
Did you know that it is more dangerous to be a child in America than it is to be a policeman on active duty? Three of our children die from abuse or neglect every day. Nine children are killed by guns. That is why each year in April, National Child Abuse Prevention Month, we ask Americans to remember the children who we could not save, and to rededicate themselves to Making Children a National Priority, so all our children can grow up safe, healthy, and able to give back to society.
As part of our ongoing initiatives during National Child Abuse Prevention Month, the Child Welfare League of America (CWLA) has set aside the fourth Friday in April as Children's Memorial Flag Day. The centerpiece of the flag is simple-a red flag depicting blue, paper-doll-like figures of children holding hands. In the center, the white chalk outline of a missing child symbolizes the thousands of children lost to violence. On April 22, 2005, every state will display the flag in some way, and every governor will issue a proclamation pledging to end preventable child deaths.
Additionally, CWLA will be spearheading our second annual Children's Memorial Flag online charity auction April 15-22. Our goal is to garner financial support for the Children's Memorial Flag initiative and raise awareness about the need to eliminate violence against children.
Together, CWLA, eBay, and MissionFish can raise critical funding for programs and services to support and serve the nearly 3 million children who are currently being abused and neglected each year in this country.
The auction will kick off at approximately 3:00 p.m. ET April 15th and close at approximately 3:00 p.m. ET April 22nd, signifying the culmination of CWLA's 2005 Children's Memorial Flag Campaign.
