First before I introduce myself, I have to voice my opinion on ebay changes. Making a seller accept only PayPal should be illegal. Ebay does not handle the sale, the payment or the shipment. Therefore, they should have no say in how you accept payment. I am not allowed to list checks or money orders as payment options or my auction will be terminated by ebay. Only allowed to list PayPal. WELL GUESS WHAT - I do accept checks and money orders. I am allowed to put that message in my emails to you when the auction ends. So bid away, I am on your side.
My name is Dee Sacherich
and I have been collecting milk glass for over 20 years. As with
most collectors, you reach a point where your collection is larger than
your space. I did not want to store my collection so I decided to sell
off some of the pieces that I could live without and my duplicates.
That worked great and new space became available to soon be overrun
again. So, you guessed it, I sold some more. Again that worked fine but
I found I liked selling. It was so much fun meeting new people, sharing
my hobby and seeing someone else enjoying a piece from my collection.
That led to finding things to sell in addition to my extras. It got to
the point when my husband and I went antiquing I spent more time
looking for things to resale than for my own collection!
Then the ultimate happened,
I bought things that were not milk glass to sell. Pretty soon the milk
glass portion of what I sell was limited. But we have so much fun with
this and find such interesting items that I can’t stop!
Addictions are bad, you
have to have your fix – be it chocolate, or ice cream or
antiques. You have to always be looking for something new and
different.
My husband, Larry, which is
where the DnL (Dee and Larry) comes in play, does the photographing of
our items, packs up the goodies when we attend auctions or buy out
estates (major job) and has designed our Web Store. He also designs
websites for his own clients.
Along the way we joined the
National Milk Glass Collectors Society. I am a charter member of that
organization. After a few years I was asked to be the Treasurer. Since
being elected in 1997 I have served the Society in that capacity. Larry
developed the Society’s website and it has been a huge
success. You can visit the website at www.nmgcs.org
No description would be
complete without telling you about my dog! He is the center of our
attention. Little Chewy (Chewbacca of Star Wars Fame) is 12 years
young. He is a Pekingese and thinks he is human, could be because he is
treated like a human. His picture is shown on this page. Update to my
Chewy - I lost my little guy on June 21st, 2004. He lived 13 years and
although I miss him terribly, I never would want him to suffer.
We have adopted a new little guy.
I love animals so much that it breaks my heart to see them in shelters.
"Cookie", a Shih Tzu, came to us from a small pet rescue unit about 75
miles from my home. I found him at www.PetFinders.com, a wonderful place.
We adopted him in November of 2004 and he was 2 years old at the time.
The poor little guy was abused by his former owners and was passed
around from shelter to shelter so he would not be a subject of
euthanasia. Since we adopted him, he has become a wonderful pet and
now knows that his permanent home is with us.
My husband and I retired a
few years ago and I took my part-time hobby and turned it into a full
time job. I work harder now than I ever did when I worked for someone
else and the pay is, well, don’t let anyone tell you they
make big bucks doing this. But I enjoy it and would never go back to
working for someone again.
Just a few words about
shipping cost. We do our best to obtain recycled shipping supplies
which include peanuts, boxes and some packing foam. But when these are
not available we have to buy peanuts and boxes. All supplies are very
expensive, just check out suppliers on the Internet to get an idea of
what a dealer pays. I have to buy bubble wrap, again an expensive item.
We never ship your item wrapped in newspaper. I buy on ebay as well and
have been shocked at the glass items that get shipped in newspaper with
no cushioning. AND you guessed it, they arrived damaged! Your items are
properly prepared for shipping when we ship. If double boxing is
required, that is what we do. Those recycled materials do not just show
up on our door step either, we have to go hunting for them. We only
charge from $1.00 and up to around $3.00 depending on the size of the
item over what we are charged for shipping. Your item is well packed
with enough cushioning around it to take an impact if it happens. We
search out the cheapest possible shipper we can use, which is why
Federal Express Ground is our primary shipper. Almost all the items we
got in damaged came from sellers that did not charge additional, they
don't have to, they don't buy any supplies! Or from sellers that barely
put any packing material in the box. Charging a handling fee is not a
bad thing, it is only bad when you are charged double or more, then the
seller is out of line. We treat our buyers with respect and we watch
out for your costs. That is why we have so many repeat buyers.
Well that’s me.
Thanks for stopping by and hope you find something to
“take” home with you. Be sure and check out the Web
Store and Ebay.
