I've been collecting and enjoying old Half Dollars for over 40 years and have decided to augment my retirement income by buying and selling them through my website, www.grandoldhalves.us, and on eBay throughout the year, except for the month of July, which is my vacation month. I specialize in Draped Bust, Capped Bust, and Seated Liberty Halves, usually AU or better, with occasional very nice Barbers and Walkers. My Customer Service Policy is very simple: ship as quickly as possible. If you aren't happy, I'm not happy, so you may return any purchase, unopened in my container, within 5 days of receipt and I will refund all you paid, including S/H/I, immediately, without any hassles. Many of my sales, probably the majority, are sales to previous customers. So, bid with confidence! My Selling Guidelines
COIN CLEANING: I do not clean coins. I understand that it is a problem to some people, so I try to point out any evidence of cleaning that I see on any coin I sell. Long-time collectors know, however, that it was common and accepted practice to clean coins for sale for decades, until about 1960, when it suddenly became a Mortal Sin. In fact, the City of San Francisco in the early part of the 20th century had a machine that they put silver coins in circulation through to clean them and then would put them back into circulation. The idea was that people who were visiting would remember San Francisco from the shiny coins they received. If the truth were known, probably 90% or better of all of the early Half Dollars were cleaned at one time or another in their lives, so I do not warrant or guarantee that any Half Dollar I sell has never been cleaned. I will give my opinion, but that is all it is ... my opinion.
COIN GRADING: Likewise, I do not guarantee in any way what a raw coin that I sell will grade if sent to any of the "professional grading" services. I try to honestly describe each coin and provide large, detailed scans for each purchaser to use in determining the grade they believe it is. I give my opinion of the grade, based on my many years of experience, but no one can forecast what a "professional grading service" will do. I believe it depends upon who sends the coin to them - their better customers, i.e., the large national retailers, are going to get better treatment...it's just human nature, all of their protests of "independence" to the contrary notwithstanding.
