Many thanks to everyone who bid during the first National Brain Tumor Awareness month. Together, we raised $286 for brain tumor research!
Hello, and welcome to my aboutme page. I started selling beads on eBay in 1999 but had to quit in 2003 due to complications from an undiagnosed brain tumor. Most of it was removed during a bifrontal craniotomy in 2007 and the rest was fried with radiation in 2008. I have been blessed with a successful recovery, and the tumor has stopped growing.
I was strong enough to return to selling my work on eBay exclusively in July 2008. I'm afraid I do not take custom orders, so I hope you find something you like by searching on Jinx Garza, then saving the search. You can set it up to have eBay email you whenever I list new auctions, usually every 5 days.
If you've won any of my beads, I'd love to see what you've done with them! Send pix! Thanks for visiting my page. You can see some of my past work at GlassArtists.org/JinxGarza.
Or check out my blog, where I write about my adventures as a brain tumor survivor and glass bead artist:
Fellow eBay Sellers: Please consider donating to the Meningioma Mommas non-profit organization, which is dedicated to finding a cure for the type of tumor I have. When listing your auction, check the box for eBay Giving Works, then type in "meningioma". Fellow eBay shoppers: Check this link to see which auctions are supporting meningioma research: Auctions for Meningioma Mommas Thank you!
Meningioma Facts
In individuals ages 35 and older, meningiomas are the most common type of brain tumor diagnosed. They most often occur in people between the ages of 40 and 70.
Meningiomas are more common in females than in males. Among middle-aged patients, the female: male ratio is nearly 3:1.
The majority of meningiomas are benign; however, undiscovered these tumors can grow slowly until they are very large, and in some locations, can be severely disabling and even life threatening.
Although meningiomas are the most prevalent primary brain tumor in existence, there is very little funding for research, emotional support and financial assistance for the victims because of the benign classification.
Even though 90% of meningiomas are classified as benign, they are not without their deficits. They can cause permanent brain damage, massive disability, and life-long seizures. The treatment of these "benign" tumors is the same as for malignant tumors: craniotomy, spinal surgery, radiation or chemotherapy. Each treatment introduces additional risks, such as blindness, necrosis, paralysis, oncogenesis, and death.
