Renewable Energy and Reuse/Resale Business
Effective the end of the day on 2008-08-21 the business became called "Gavin G. Young Enterprises". Its web site is Renewable Electricity Solutions (previously the business was called "Renewable Electricity Solutions" and it was originally called Gavin Young's Install, being named after the owner). The business was started in early 2001 when my hobby for computers became a way to make a living while protecting the environment. The initial purpose of the business was to refurbish and resale previously owned vintage computers and other used electronics. This way they can be reused rather than end up in a landfill. It also helps collectors to find those rare computers. Since November 2001, the business also began selling products that generate electricity from renewable energy (solar and wind power) or that conserve energy. Since August 2002, the business has focused on products that produce electricity from renewable sources (solar, wind, and water), hence the name change to Renewable Electricity Solutions in mid August 2002.
In late 2004 the business expanded into the sale of previously owned books (some of which are in brand new condition), especially hard to find English translations of the Bible (Holy Scriptures) and other books of interest to Christians and Messianic Jews. The goal regarding the sale of religious books is to aid truth seekers by finding new homes for hard to find previously owned books.

Due to concern for the environment (Revelation 11:18 and Genesis 2:15), all items are now shipped using used packaging peanuts/pellets (or crumpled newspaper), cornstarch packaging peanuts, or the original packaging materials (such as in the case of new items in the retail box) whenever possible. At the end of March of 2007 I sold my automobile and have decided to not purchase/drive another one for the forseable future, thus drastically reducing my carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions - in order to further fight pollution and global warming, while getting more exercise and saving money at the same time! I now transport the packages to the local post office and other shipping stores by walking (while carrying packages on a handtruck or folding cart if necessary). Likewise I use walking and mass transit to shop for merchandise and packaging peanuts.

I am deeply concerned about preserving the world's natural resources and environment. On a personal level, I do what I can to recycle and use energy wisely. I live and work in the Pacific Northwest in Beaverton, OR, USA. Beaverton is a suburb of Portland, OR.
Since March 2002, all of the electricity purchased for this business and my home is being generated from renewable energy! This is because I signed up for Portland General Electric's (PGE's) Green Energy power option program (Renewable Usage - Green Source). PGE is purchasing the energy from Green Mountain Energy (http://www.greenmountain.com). All of the electricy produced in the option is produced by geothermal, wind, low impact hydro, and other renewable energy sources.
I've also used a 5 Watt solar panel (the same model that I used to sell here on eBay) on my apartment's deck to recharge a sealed 12 volt battery. I then used that battery to a run small portable stereo (via a DC to AC modified sinewave inverter),(6.5 Watt) B&W TV and a fluorescent lantern. It worked great. I could watch a TV program even on cloudy days using that solar charged battery pack (though for a shorter time on cloudy days)! Renewable energy is now a viable energy source for producing electric power cost effectively. In this new millennium, the solar industry has a new lease on life.
