US Numbered Highway Route Signs

Coming Soon!! I will be posting photo's I took of some of my US Route shields placed on the actual roads they were used on I really enjoyed doing this. Know you will enjoy seeing them back in the Wild. Faked or non Original US Route shields!!!! There has been a rash of faked or non-original US 66 signs and other US Route shields coming up for sale recently on the national sign market being sold as originals and the buyers have paid heavily for these. It's a shame this is happening. I believe that 99.9% of the time when this happens the people who are selling these just do not know what they are selling or they bought them being told that they were real. I have included pictures below for you to see what some these non-original signs look like. Maybe this will save someone the heartache of shelling out hard earned money for non original signs and hope that this information will help everyone out there looking for real signs. These pictures shown below are here to help educate the public and in no way am I trying to interfere with any sales on any market. This just helps to make our hobby of collecting these neat shields more enjoyable for all of us. Picture #1 is of a cast aluminum shield 11" by 11" in size. These were actually movie props came in different sizes with different dates cast into the rear and I interviewed the maker of these back in 1978 who worked for a movie studio. Pictures #2 and #3 are of a modern reproduction porcelain sign that someone added reflectors too this sign also measures around 11in by 11in. Pictures #4 and #5 are of an repro 22" steel 66 with reflectors added. Picture #6 is of an 24 "aluminum reproduction that reflectors were added too. Picture #7 and #8 are of an original New mexico US 60 that some one cut the 0 out of and added a 6 onto in an attempt to make it an US66 sign. You can see the weld mark's around the 6 in the picture. Picture #9 is of an modern day heavy steel embossed reproduction New Mexico 16" by 16" shield that has been aged in appearance to make it look old. Picture #10 is of a non original reproduction Illinois US 66 sign that was aged this sign sold on e-bay today. Picture #11 is of a fantasy Washington US 101 shield that is listed on e-bay. This is a madeup sign 24" x 24" which was never used in Washington made by the same guy selling the following US 66 shields on e-bay. Picture #12 is of a set of US 66 shields again all fantasy signs being sold as reproductions, but have seen them being resold as originals. The signs come no where close to the actual shields that were originally used. Picture #13 is of a fantasy California US 101 with CDOH seal even looks to be made by the same guy who made the Wash US 101 above Picture #14 is of a aged fantasy recent reproduction Missouri embossed shield. The fonts on this shield are of the 1980's reproduction dies which are not like the original dies so don't be mislead. Picture #15 is of a aged fantasy recent reproduction Arizona embossed shield. The fonts on this shield are of the 1980's reproduction dies same as the Missouri above Picture #16 is of a 19" cast aluminum route 66 movie prop sign with marbles attached note serial # stamped into upper LH corner and brass tag riveted on upper RH corner again this a movie prop.
