NEVER SIGN IN WHILE LOOKING AT CURRENT AUCTIONS

I get a lot of questions about my sig. I love the questions and the chance for others to become more informed.

YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE SIGNED IN TO view A CURRENT AUCTION.

Even non members can browse current auctions. If you are faced with a sign in page just by clicking an auction you can bet it's a scammer trying to get your info.

There are lots of places on eBay that you have to sign in. To see a person's bidding history, to see a seller's completed auctions, to add an auction to your watch list, to bid on an auction, to read your my eBay messages, etc., you must sign in.

But just say you go to the toy or coffee pot category (Insert your own area of interest here). You see an auction that interests you. You click on it. You might see the auction flash up for a moment and then you see a log in page. It doesn't matter if you are or are not already signed into eBay. If you are just LOOKING at an auction you should not have to sign in.

Those are scammer pages. Signing in will give away your info. If you pay attention you will see the URL does not go to eBay, (although the overlay scams will show you as still being on eBay ) is not a https (secure) page and will not have the lock.

This often happens with porn pics on listings that are put in the general categories. People are fooled into signing in thinking it's okay because they have adult pics or they are so indignant they click to report it. The scammers prey on the curiousity of the masses that want to know why a porn pic or wording would be in toys or whatever. You click, you are asked to sign in. You do. Your info is now sent to the scammers.

It's also used on normal looking listings.

Be careful and be aware. The hijackers are rampant on eBay these days!
