Checkers: The Amazing Pomeranian!
DOB: August 31, 1998
Checkers came into our lives -- quite accidentally -- and made an immediate and everlasting impreession on our hearts, our breath, and our daily lives.
A little clown who is lovable beyond belief, he always offers his heart to everyone. We feel very fortunate to be able to share our lives with him. We count our blessings when recalling the day ... and the heart-wrenching cirumstances ... that lead Checkers to us. We were going through an incredible amount of personal anguish at that time ... and Checkers chose that time to join our family. The pain that was suffered was so worth it for the grace that he has provided to our lives.
Checkers is the "alpha male" of the household, and he takes his job very seriously. His little pint sized bark is enough to scare off the bravest of intruders. And that includes the mailman and any household repairmen who have the nerve to step foot inside his ... kingdom!

Scootie Patootie Binky Bilbo Baggins ...
DOB: July 14, 2000
In the Fall of 2000, Checkers finally convinced us ("his people") that we needed to hear the pitter patter of another little Pomeranian around the house. See, while Checkers LOVEs to play (it was mostly with Pooka), his (much older) sisters didn't exactly want to play -- all the time, like he does!! Checkers kept asking and asking ... he really WANTED a Scootie.
So, we finally found the PERFECT Scootie! Scootie was 19 ounces when he came to live with us.
If we had 'pre-ordered' Scootie, we could never have known how to describe him. He is so much more than joy, so much more than a dog, so much more than a friend. Have you ever seen Mr. Winkle? Scootie has become the spitting image of Mr. Winkle!
Scootie pretty quickly developed AN INCREDIBLE AMOUNT of fur. It was looooooog, and even dragging on the ground. However, he has now developed a form of alopecia, and is almost entirely hairless on his body. Still has hair on his legs and his head ... and somehow, being Scootie, he manages to look adorable!! |

Red Hot Chilli Pepper!
DOB: February 20, 2003
Well, as things pass, the kids start asking for kids. Scootie wanted his own Scootie. So we got him a Chilli.
"Red Hot Chilli "Pepper" (he goes by Chilli ... or Chilli-Bob-Squeaky-Pants ... or the-naughtiest-dog-in-the-universe ...) has joined our clan! We will be adding more pages and pictures, but here's a sneak preview.
What a doll-baby Chilli-Boy, Chilly-Dog, Chilli-Willie ... is!! Once again, our newest Pom came from Janet Bordelon at Velvet Touch Kennel. Janet knows her Poms. We'd not even CONSIDER anywhere else!
This pup -- even his Nanny and Lady think their "youngest Granddoggy" is naughty!! He TRIES to get into trouble! And you can almost hear him laugh while he's doing it!
Scootie HATES that we discovered that CHILLI's parents are SCOOTIE's grandparents. So, in spite of the fact that Scootie is older (and so much more mature), Chilli is Scootie's UNCLE! |

Our Snickers and Old Lace!
DOB: March 15, 1988
Snickers, a 16-1/2-year-old Yorkshire Terrier, is one of the sweetest and most lovable -- yet incredibly fiesty -- pups that you would ever hope to meet! Her heart is full of ample doses of both sugar and vinegar!!
Snickers joined our family in 1988. A sweet, rolly-poly pup, yet, Pooka took a bit to warm up to her! You can see the pictures of the little teeny tiny girl that she was (and hey, she's only about seven pounds now!). She was barely two pounds when she joined our family. I have to admit that now, at the age of 14, she STILL is quite the puppy and is holding her age incredibly well.
She LOVES to play with her brothers, Checkers and Scootie, and to this day, she bounces higher than Tigger, himself, could ever hope for!!!
It appears that she was posing for a "Sports Illustrated" layout ... on her beach towel! So ... confident ! ! ! !When Snickers was a mere 3-1/2 months old, she came with us to a "one year" (yes, it's true) family reunion for POOKA! Well, Snickers, being the flirty girl she is, found the most eligible bachelor there and promptly "made friends." The size difference did NOT matter to her, being the brave little girl that she is!
She is such a little love-bug, no pup could ever refuse her! When "Snicks" was a year old, we celebrated with ... (what else in this household?) ... CAKE!!!Yes, it's true. Sam made Alpo Cake (hey, Three Dog Bakery wasn't "invented" yet!)! |

Wee Willie Pooka Belly.
July 2, 1987 - May 30, 2003
Our Baby Girl, Pooky. May 30, 2003. She crossed over the rainbow bridge peacefully, held in Sam's arms, covered with Joe's kisses.
In September 1987, Pooka called to us. Right through thin air; through God's direction. She knew she had to be in our lives. So, her Sam and Joe ... they drove far and wide, high and low, over hill, over dale, rivers, woods, you got it ... to find her and bring her to her HOME.
Pooky's first strong memory was of being brought home, in a Mustang GT (she knew she must be a cool dog then!). When Sam and Joe stopped to get a soda at a convenience store on the trip home, Sam (who was driving) held Pooky ... while Joe went into the store. Well, Pooky wasn't too happy about that. See, she'd BONDED with Joe during the drive. Since Joe had been HOLDING her. Sam? WHO CARES?! WHERE'S JOE!?!?! Fortunately, I finally was able to SHOW her the JOE through the window. Smart pup. She actually saw what I was pointing at! Well. Pooky promptly set about bringing goofiness and joy to her Sam and Joe's lives.
Many years have passed; many memories of Pooka still burn strongly in our hearts. Pooka was the long-time reigning alpha female in our home! She was a wonderful little pup who blessed our home with her beauty, loyalty and entertaining personality for many years ...

| Just this Side of Heaven is a Place called Rainbow Bridge |
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together ...

Being the Alpha Male ... Checkers Wants to Share His Point of View
One of my "people" LOVES eBay! Started out buying -- (everything in the universe) -- but now also enjoys selling things to people who are just so nice ...! The stories my "person" hears are often quite touching!
Every Sunday -- during racing season -- my "people" and I spend the whole day watching racing, r a c i n g and (oh, yeah, by the way) RACING!! Vroom vroom! (Usually I just sleep ... Zzzzzz ... Yawn!!!) Sometimes Joes tries to brush me during the races. I HATE THAT. I HATE GETTING BRUSHED. Chilli is so dumb. He actually thinks getting brushed is FUN. Well, I've tried telling him he should squirm, fuss, wriggle, cry, scream and shake, but he just doesn't understand. Oh well. Sometimes you can't educate the young.
I *hate it* when "my people" actually GO to the races ... except when it's the Daytona 500 -- which means Scootie, Chilli, Snickers and I get to stay with our "Lady" all day (Lady is Sam's Mom).
Our Family
I LOVE to play with my sister and my brothers... although, I've gotten a bit more -- ahem -- PRINCELY lately. I prefer to sit on my pillow with my front feet crossed. And for everyone to come pay me respects and tell me how beautiful I am. Chilli -- he jumps everyone. Sometimes I have to beat him up just to keep him in line. Scootie mostly just sleeps. On his back. With his feet in the air. He has no pride.
We're the "small dog" family! We are all very happy, well-loved puppies, and we love our people. Woof woof!!!
