A sampling of recent unsolicited comments received via email:

Date: Thurs, 13 Sept 2007    From: Jim D.

  • "Andy, wanted to tell you how extremely happy I am with the work you did to all my guitars (Guild, Thompson, Strat)! The only word I can think of is PERFECTION. Thanks again for all your work and attention to detail! The 12-string will be next! All the best-"

Date: Fri, 7 Sept 2007    From: Deno

"Now, that's what the f-ck I'm talking about! Hell, the only problem is that the axe is such a blast to play and, in truth, it really is earmarked for solo work on this project (which will not see those tracks until mid '08). Man, it's hard to set it down. Nice job. The chord voicings maintain their form even with diminished forms at high gain settings, and it's a breeze to tap and noodle around on--the action isn't too low, thus allowing for proper bend work, but it's all smooth enough for sweep and legato lines. Man, it's just nice not having to finesse my feel every second to compensate for the setup--why think when you should just be listening and playing. Thanks a ton-- (Yup, a whole 2000 pounds worth.)"

"Hey, just wanted to tell you, I got home and went to work, plugged  the Lakland in my usual front end (nice Radial passive DI, etc.) and  it's dead quiet, at least here in my studio, and that's with 2 big computer monitors going, various lights, etc.  Go figure. Not even a little buzz.  Anyhow, it sounds awesome--vast improvement in tone--I can really hear it going DI--sounds BIG. I'll still go for the shielding paint when you get it -can't hurt I  figure. Have a great day-"

Date: Sat, 9 July 2007    From: Damon Stout, The Diviners Band

"Heya Andy, i just wanted to say thanks again for the bass ('ol yella - or yellowjacket) i recorded w/ it for the first time this week for an album soon to be released on the Concord label, and wow... crisp punchy and tasty -incredibly articulate tone. I can't wait to hear the final mix (i'll send it to you when released) -thanks again!"

Date: Fri, Jul 6 2007    From: Bob B.

"Hi Andy, Hope all is well with you! I'm happy to report that I've been thoroughly enjoying playing the Steinberger that you worked on for me last year. The Duncan EVH pickup sounds killer in the bridge position. I'm loving the fretwork and the flat radius, too! Would your tech be able to take a Parker, with its composite fingerboard and glued-on frets, and give it a totally flat fretboard radius and replace the frets with Dunlop 6100 wire? Best-"

Date: Mon, 2 Jul 2007    From: John Warrin

"Hi Andy, Thank you again so much. The guitars sound amazing. I honestly didn't think they'd ever sound that good. You are a guitar genius."

Date: Sat, 30 June 2007    From: Chris Conte

"Hey Andy, THANKS for a great job on my Strat. It's a world  of difference with the new saddles and the setup is fantastic. It is  so much better to play now. Thanks again and we'll talk soon."

Date: Wed, 27 June 2007    From: Bob G., Rancho Palos Verdes CA

"Hi Andy, I really appreciate you taking the time with us and answering so many questions last Saturday at your place. Remember us, we were the three banditos (old guys) drooling all over the place, in awe and wonder of how knowledgeable you were with guitar gear. Respectively-"

"Andy - awesome job, just got back to play some more...sounds incredible!"

Date: Fri, 8 June 2007    From: Mike G.

"Hey Andy, First, let me thank you for the superb job you did on the '69 SG Custom. The neck is perfect and my gig with it in March went great. Next, I have to thank you for the excellent fire appraisals of my burned SG and 66 Strat. They were so compelling that [the insurance company] finally paid off within the price range you set for both of them. So, I am now the proud owner of one of the cleanest '66 sunburst Strats in the world, and I was wondering if you could find time to do a set up job on both that and a new Les Paul I just got. I also plan to bring in a Tele belonging to a friend that needs some tuning key repair. Let me know when you have time for an appointment to bring these instruments in. Thanks again."

"Happy B-day Andy!! And thanks for all the work in the late 80's when I worked at Leed's, that really helped me out. You're the best. Nobody does what you do. The level of professionalism and attention to detail, still inspire me to this day!  Thanks for being you."

Date: Thurs, 22 March 2007    From: Daren Burns

"Hey Andy,  No problem with the referral. You do great work and are very easy to get info out of and your work is exceptional. Plus, theres no BS. You're the best tech I have ever worked with. I'm going to bring a fretless to you soon to have it's nut done as well. Take care."

Date: Wed, 28 Feb 2007    From: Tommy Watts

"Oh my gosh Andy, I don't know what to say. You took a dusty old lump of coal and turned it into a beautiful fine diamond. What you did for my 1945 Gibson L 7 is nothing short of magnificent! You sir are truly a world class guitar luthier and I am honored that you restored my baby for me. Thank you!" Tommy Watts, Professional Jazz Musician (Semi Retired)

Date: Tues, 20 Feb 2007    From: Harry Martin

"Hi Andy. Just dropping a line to say that while I was extremely impressed with your work on my SG, I was even more impressed that you took the time to call and see that I was satisfied with the work you did.  You are in my book as a true professional. All the best-"

Date: Tues, 20 Feb 2007    From: Jonathan Pusey

"Andy, I hope this e-mail finds you well! My PRS positively roars since you worked on it. I was shocked to learn just how much louder it is now. It's really unbelievable. It seems to shake the very foundation of my house when I play it through my Marshall at my usual volume. Previously it had only shaken the walls! I'll see you again in a few months for maintenance. Aloha-"

"Andy, in a time when service is so lacking by many companies, yours sets a new standard. I just wanted to say thank you, the pick ups are great and I recommend your great service to everyone. "

Date: Tues, 26 Dec 2006    From: Vincenzo P.

"Thanks Andy, that [1.3 hours of consulting, amp and guitar repair] was great and refreshing!"

Date: Mon, 25 Dec 2006    From: Jon B. (via Hallmark card)

"Dear Andy, thank you for your time, expertise, and genuine enthusiasm! You have once again made the joy of rescuing and restoring beautiful instruments possible. 2006 was a great year for my little orphaned lap steels & I!"

Date: Sun, 17 Dec 2006    From: Glenn W.

"Andy, I have been playing the Strat for a week now and it sounds great. The new pickup gives me just what I was looking for in soloing. Cuts through nicely where the SC didn't. The setup is noticeably improved too. It plays like butter. The intonation is dead on and my fingers seem to fly over the fretboard . . . the action is great. Playing chords was never easier. . .  thanks for doing such a pro job on it."

"Dear Andy, I wanted to drop you a line after viewing your website, WWW.ANDYBRAUER.COM , to say that musicians in California are incredibly fortunate to have a company like yours providing the services you do. N.Y. needs to have something like that here.  I've been a fan since reading your profile in Guitar World entitled "Studio Rats," probably in '87. Later I followed your monthly column in Guitar Player. Much like yourself, I am a gear-a-holic. The magazine article that was very interesting was your profile in 20th Century Guitar, whom I wound up writing for for 3 years.  Later I went on to write for Guitar Shop.  You should consider penning some more articles.

"Why is Steve Lukather selling those outrageous-sounding amps? The sound he got on the Tubes albums defined great tone. Incredible sounding tone machines. At any rate, I just wanted to tell you that NY needs a dedicated service co. like Andy Brauer. It could revive the studio scene here."

Date: Thu, 20 July 2006    From: William Young

"Dear Andy, I want to thank you for all the magic you put into my guitars. It's like they have been reborn and subsequently I play and sound a lot better playing them. The action and fine tuned intonation along with the precision polishing of the fret-board were the answers I didn't know I was looking for to improve the play substantially on the both of them. I want to thank you very much for the work you did, I wasn't expecting it."

Date: Thu, 13 April 2006    From: Chris C.

"Andy, I just wanted to say how much I appreciate your attention to detail and actually listening to me. As you know, I am very picky on how I want my instruments set up because off how lightly I play. It seems difficult to find skilled honest craftsmen these days. You did a great job on my guitar. I  will be in touch to bring you some other guitars."

Date: Sun, 2 April 2006    From: Rick A.

"Andy, These pickups [you installed] sound fantastic with the Fuchs in all positions. Thanks a million."

Date: Mon, 16 January 2006    From: John M., San Francisco CA

"Andy, Received the '94 MIJ Custom Cream Tele and I'm having a great time with such a pretty and unique guitar. I was sent a pic of the same model being played by The Edge. Guess I'm in good company. Only wish I could play like him! Thanks for shipping so quickly and packing it so thoroughly!"

Date: Wed, 20 August 2005    From: Greg Reeves, Cordovan Music

"Andy, I just wanted to drop you a line. The P Bass you worked on is totally great - feel and sound. I haven't touched another bass since I got it back. In fact, I just got back from a session this morning and that is the only bass they let me play! Thank you!"

"Hi Andy, Just wanted to say thank you again for fixing up my old P bass. I always loved playing it and thought it was one of the best playing and sounding basses I ever played. I didnt think it was possible, but you made it even better. It plays better than ever and the new pickups sound incredible! And the new paint job is Stunning! You and your staff are awesome! you have exceeded my expectations way above what I thought was possible. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!  I have a Schecter strat that I would like you to redo for me also. It is a mid 80s model with some of the most beautiful wood Ive ever seen. I would like to have it sanded down, refinished and buffed out so that it shines again. And then set up so that it plays as beautiful as my P-bass. Let me know if it is OK to bring it in next week. Thanks!"

Date: Wed, 24 December 2003    From: Niels A. (Copenhagen)

"Andy, I'm very gratified with the two Gibson signature basses that I bought at your auctions. They're the best basses I've ever played. "

Date: Fri, 30 October 2003    From: David Pircher

"Hi Andy, Thank you for your help in selling my Dumble , setting up my Strat and hooking me up with the Fuchs Overdrive Supreme. Those three things have helped me out tremendously. The Strat now plays like a new axe and the Fuchs actually sounds better than the Dumble (and I had a great sounding Dumble).  BTW I love the way you set up my Strat. It plays great now, the Floyd Rose responds better and the intonation is dead on."

Date: Fri, 17 October 2003    From: Olivier Floride

"Dear Andy, I'm happy to confirm to you the receipt of the L2 Steinberger bass today. The L2 is indeed a very beautiful bass with a really great sound (I have just tested it). You are a nice guy, a fine businessman and I was lucky to make my very first E-bay transaction with you. Quick shipping, No damage : you have done your job very well. THANK YOU for all that you have done."

"Andy I've rented a Marshall half stack from you in the past.  It was made in the seventies and it had the 4 inputs that you showed me how to chain together to get the amazing distortion when it's cranked up to 11. It was so amazing that I would like to buy one for myself. If you know the amp that I'm talking about would you please send me a detailed description so that when I try to hunt one of these down I'll know what to look for. Plus any other advice you have would be greatly appreciated. You've been so helpful and friendly in the past that I figured you wouldn't mind helping me out again."

"Andy, thanks for the short history on this '59 Strat. This is a great guitar with a very unique profile neck. Some of my friends who played this guitar are really impressed with the feel of the neck and  the lightweight body. Ohh yeah, they are also impressed with the TONE too!!! This one is almost TOO good to play on a daily basis in fear of  wearing out the frets. Thanks again for selling such a gem of a guitar to me. I'm almost sleeping with this thing every nite!"

"Andy: Thanks for the great guitar head via eBay! I put it through the paces last weekend. Wow! I've never had an all tube Marshall head, let alone a classic like the JCM 900. The product was in excellent condition when it arrived, and far exceeded my expectations. It performs flawlessly, and has more power than I expected for a 50W model. Thank you again, and I'll be looking at your auctions in the future!!!"

I have to say that, as one of the bigger recording studios in Boston, we do lots of sending, shipping & receiving. Your speedy response to my question (and on a small item like this!) and your little extras like a pick and a receipt really set you apart from most. Later I went on to write for Guitar Shop.
You should consider penning some more articles.

    eBay DROP-OFF (sales assistance) INFO

  • In particular, we are looking for the following:
    1. Guitars made by Fender, Gibson, Martin or Gretsch. We're open to hearing from you if your guitar is made by another company, but these are our preferences.
    2. Guitars that are in very good or excellent condition.
    3. Guitars that are made before 1980. If you're not sure when your guitar was made, don't worry. When you send us information, we'll figure that out.

If you're interested in selling your guitar, here's how to proceed:

Please email with the following information:

    1. A description of the guitar. Tell us if it's electric, acoustic, how old you think it is, etc.. Please list any words (like Fender) and serial numbers that you can see on the guitar. Tell us where you bought it and how long ago.
    2. A brief explanation of the condition of the guitar. Do you know if all the parts are original? Has it ever been repaired for some reason?
    3. A brief description of the guitar case, if there is one. Is it original?
    4. Please attach to your emails digital pictures that include front, back, a close-up of the headstock (at the top of the guitar where the tuners of the strings are located), and a picture of the guitar in the carrying case, opened of course!)
    5. If you would prefer sending pictures in the mail, enclose photos and the descriptions requested to:
