I would like to introduce myself and I apologize about my
limitations in English language, your comments and suggestions for improvement
will be appreciated.
I was born in a small town named Muntilan, in English it
sounds like Mount The Land, it matches quite well as the city is located
below the Merapi and Merbabu mountains, if you ever travel to the
famous Borobudur temple from Jogjakarta, you should pay a visit to my
town. Since 1978, I moved to Jogjakarta, a larger and famous city aso
located under the Merapi volcano, the distance between the 2 cities is only 29
km.
Jogjakarta
has established itself as an active cultural and studying center, may be because
many cultural traditions and heirlooms have been preserved, and because of the
presence of the Kasultanan Jogjakarta kingdom until the declaration of
the Indonesian Republic in 1945. At that time, the kingdom remained as a
cultural symbol only but the area has since kept a special political status, so
the present Sultan of Jogjakarta, Sultan Hamengku
Buwono X is still considered as the leader of the
Jogjakarta Province as the Governor
or Gubernur Daerah Tingkat I Propinsi Jogjakarta
in Indonesian language (Bahasa
Indonesia).
We are living in a multi-cultural and multi-ethnic society, there
are Moslems, Christians (Protestants & Catholics), Buddhists, Hindus, adepts of
the Traditional Javanese Religion and more, who live together with their own
spiritual values and in peace. The population is mostly from Javanese origin,
but there are many ethnic minorities such as Chinese, Arabs, Indians and
Westerners, and also other Indonesian ethnic groups like for example the Bugis
from Sulawesi who live in a village named Bugisan, so Jogjakarta could be
considered as a miniature of Indonesia because almost all ethnic groups are
represented and many of them studied in the oldest and famous Gajah Mada
University.
Since my young age, I love practising many outdoor activities,
such as mountaineering, caving, trekking etc. I completed my university studies
and since then I have worked in many places of Indonesia, my experience makes me
stronger and I have many friends here and there.
My main job is to run a small building contractor business,
working for building structures and architecture, interior finishing and steel
work but since the economical crisis affected Indonesia, the orders have become
scarce, so I have tried to develop some e-commerce since I discovered Ebay in
2003, now I'm a well established Ebayer and my ID is
bakoelkris.
Bakoel adopted from bakul, writen using old
Indonesian grammar which writen with e kris adopted from words using by
Westerners called to keris, I chosen this ID as bakoelkris because my mainly
auction on Ebay starting from this item.
As there are so many handicrafts and other cultural objects
available here, I have tried to offer these items in my auctions, thinking that
it should interest and attract the traditional handicrafts lovers around the
world.
First I started offering some keris
(in Indonesian language) or kris (in
English) or kriss (in French), especially the Javanese keris, this is
a famous kind of traditional weapon from Indonesia, that we classify as follows:
1. New,
if it was made less than 20 years ago, with the description of the dapur
(shape) and the pamor (damascene), and if possible the name of the
empu (smith).
2. Old,
if it is between 20 to 100 years old, with the description of the dapur,
the pamor, the tangguh (estimated manufacturing period and area of
origin), and if possible the name of the empu.
3. Antique,
if it is more than 100 years old, with the decription of the dapur, the
pamor, and the tangguh, and if possible the name of
the empu. Because of the title space limitation on Ebay, I sometimes
describe the ntiquekeris as as ld./font>
4. Re-processed,
if I suspect that the keris was modified or re-worked by someone in the past, in
this case this not an original keris so I describe it as e-processed
5. Upgraded,
sometimes the owner social status improves, so he needs or wishes to upgrade
his keris by adding some decoration such as gold inlay, precious stones or
diamonds, in this case I describe the keris as pgraded
Since recently I have tried to offer other handicrafts and
culture-related products like Javanese Batik, Wayang
Kulit/ Shadow Puppet, Wayang Golek/ Wooden/ Rod Puppet, Wooden Statues, Silver
products, etc.
Any request or inquiry for other Indonesian products will be
appreciated, especially if it is produced in Jogjakarta because this is easier
to find it here.
The main problem for e-commerce in Indonesia is about the payment
process and the expensively of the shipping cost. Ebay were recommending to use
Paypal rather than the other types
of payment, I'm glad that my best friend of Germany has helped me and so for now
I established my
Paypal account on my name.
The other available payment system is
Western Union Money Transfer,
which is quite expensive but beyond my control. Practically, this type of payment is very easy, you just need to
go to the nearest Western Union office and proceed to the payment manually, for
people living in The United States, Australia, Canada, Austria, France, Ireland,
Netherlands, Norway and The United Kingdom, they can send the payment online,
please check the link :
Western Union Money Transfer
.
After sending the payment using
Western Union Money Transfer,
the sender must transmit the MTCN (Money Transfer Control Number) to me by Email
and the payment sender name because they are both required as passwords for
withdrawing the fund here.
Another payment system is the Bank Transfer using a Swift Code
to Indonesia or for European Union can send using BIC and IBAN to Germany,
this requires 7-10 days until the fund settlement but I can only accept this
payment system for repeat buyers, but not for new buyers, and the sender must
agree to pay all the transfer money fees and add US$10.00 for compensating the
receiving fees on my end.
I am using top class international courrier services for shipping
the parcels, mostly UPS, sometimes Fedex or DHL for East European countries, and
DHL to Australia, I benefit from a
special discount from the listed prices, upon shipping the parcel I will advise
the tracking number to the consignee so he can check their parcel status at any
time.
My proposal
for buyers, please make combine purchases to lowing the cost for each item, the
second item and others have no basic cost then it will lessen the global cost.
I hope that I have been able to answer some of your frequently
asked questions and I wish you successful auctions on Ebay. I have gained a high
reputation of a honest, efficient, and competent Ebayer (please check my
evaluation list) that I will strive to maintain in the future.
Sincerely,
Suryono
