Project Kindle, formerly known as Camp Kindle, is dedicated to improve the quality of life for young people infected or affected by HIV and AIDS. A child's self-acceptance is often made more difficult by the challenges of HIV. Giving young people chances to succeed, learn and grow sends messages that they are in fact special, unique and talented. Project Kindle was established in 1998.
Project
Kindle
empowers children impacted by HIV/AIDS. These young people participate in educational activities designed to improve health, develop leadership, build self-esteem, prevent further HIV transmission, raise HIV awareness, instill character education and strengthen coping skills. Given the social stigmas surrounding the disease,
Project
Kindle
offers a refuge for these youth by providing a non-threatening environment. These youth possess unique knowledge about HIV and how it affects ones life. Through collaboration Projects,
Project
Kindle
works with the impacted youth to create healthy people through community health education and the sharing of this unique knowledge, thus responding to the needs of this epidemic.
Project
Kindle
offers a broad range of programs throughout the year. Each program is unique and meets the needs of communities across the nation. Low-income families comprise 95 percent of pediatric HIV/AIDS patients, which leads to extra dollars being spent on the care of the infected family members, thus creating additional financial stress. For this reason
Project
Kindle
’s programs are provided to the families at no cost.
Camp Kindle is the summer camping program offered through Project Kindle (www.campkindle.org)
