A Little Bit About Me and My Babies/h2>
 |
I created this page so you could learn a little bit more about me and to see more examples of my work reborning Berenguer play dolls into beautiful Cheryl Cherubs!
 |
I am well known reborn artist Cheryl Therese of Cheryl's Cherubs Nursery. I'm an artist with many years of experience in various art forms. In addition to taking classes in painting, sewing and other handicrafts, I was very privileged to study under a doll maker with over 30 years of experience. Under her meticulous eye and strict standards of excellence, I learned every aspect of transforming a porcelain doll into a work of art from painting techniques to customizing and sewing doll bodies and outfits.

Ie always loved babies and young children. I've owned and operated my own day care center and have taken countless classes and read extensively on child development. From my porcelain doll days to the present, I have incorporated my extensive knowledge of babies and young children to create true to life dolls. When I first discovered reborn Berenguer dolls, I couldn't believe how real they seemed! I immediately set to work researching the various methods and techniques of top reborners. Over time, I perfected my techniques until I could create the most realistic young baby possible. I just love creating these little darlings! I get great pleasure in combining my artistic talent with my love of babies and I put the same amount of love and attention to detail into each of my cherubs as I would if I was making it for myself..

I accept nothing less than perfection when creating these darling little ones. Each my little cherubs starts out as a play doll (usually Berenguer brand) and is lovingly reborn into a collectible work of art. Achieving that "real baby look" takes hours and hours of labor over the course of several weeks. It is a process that cannot be rushed.

First the factory paint is removed and baby is given a warm, sudsy bath to remove any waxy residue and impurities from her sweet skin. Then she is colored inside and out with my special coloring techniques and blushed to a rosy glow in all those places where babies are naturally pink. Special attention was paid to all of those little baby creases and folds to give her real baby coloring. Just like any other infant, her skin is not exactly even. I have worked very hard to achieve the perfect blend to create the most amazingly realistic skin tone. You'll find that my babies have very natural coloring, very much like real babies.
.
Tiny little fingernails and toenails are tipped and then, sealed with a permanent varnish that will not yellow. You won't believe how realistic they look! Then each little cherub receives a special head of hair, either hand rooted, often hand colored mohair or a high quality imported mohair wig. The mohair is selected for it realistic appearance and the color is chosen especially for each unique reborn.

Cheryl's Cherubs one of a kind heirlooms are designed to be passed down from generation to generation. Each design captures a moment of innocence and no two will ever be alike.
The next day I set out for the local shops, anxious to get started on my new hobby. I came home loaded down with supplies. Several hours later, I was quite disappointed with my results. I sorry to say there was even a vinyl doll head that got hurled across the living room in frustration! It turns out there was a lot more involved in creating a realistic doll than I thought.
What makes Cheryl's Cherubs collectible heirlooms the popular choice of pediatric nurses, parents and grandparents? I have many years of experience making porcelain and soft sculptured dolls and have worked in other mediums as well. I'm a perfectionist by nature and I take great pride in offering only the highest quality and most realistic reborns possible.
Thank you for taking time to look at my babies. I hope you enjoyed looking and reading about them as much as I did in making them. Each and every one is a treasure to me!
