I'm Just a Chickadee

Well, actually, my grandmother is. Her name is Edith, nicknamed, Dee Dee, after the bird.

MY name is Annie.

I am a self taught artist, if you want to call me that. I recently married my partner of 20 years. It's funny to think of celebrating a first year anniversary!I love to paint, draw, sculpt, write and spend time outdoors. I love my animals, and my family. I am very lucky to have both a wonderful mother AND a wonderful mother in law!

I love my new house, which we (my family and I) designed and built with our own hands. It's an early barn style, with exposed beams, and a great, mountainous view. It inspires me.

My old dog, Ginger, and her older buddy, Carrot, couldn't be happier living out their days in the country!

I started "doing" art to fill the void of living in the city. Though I HAVE been doing ceramics for about 30 years! Tic Toc...
I started selling on ebay for fun. Luckily, I live very close to Sturbridge, MA., the mecca of primitives! It's nice to have a place to sell my ebay rejects!!!

Ebay is fun and exciting to me, because it enables me to reach people from all over. I love knowing that my art is in a home in say, the Rocky Mountains, or in a little town that no one's heard of...like WALES~!

I love aniques and junque. A favorite past time is to go antiquing with my mother. All day, with my pickup truck...lol. NOT something my husband appreciates as much! I love the thought of having something in my home that someone else once cherished and touched. MY most cherished items are those that have been handed down to me from family. I recently found two, wooden birds that my grandfather carved and painted.

I wouldn't sell them for a million dollars!

I love folk art, and am very much drawn to the Pennsylvania motifs. I enjoy the history behind them, and their primitive beauty and symbolism. And I love a good patina! Upon meeting my husband, all of those years ago, I met his grandmother. She is an unbelievably lovely person. Someone very different than anyone I have ever met. She showed me some of the dolls she made, in an early style at a fine arts school. I fell in love with them, and that is what sparked my interest in creating dolls. For me, it's therapeutic, and I believe each doll has a spirit, unique unto them.

My favorite holiday in terms of decorating is Halloween. It's something I have learned that I share with my father.

There's just something magical about carving squash, and greeting children at your door. I've always felt that the children with the home-made costumes were the lucky ones. To me, a home-made costume means someone really loves you.

I love doing art in the quiet hum of my country house, listening to the music I call Pitter Patter of Little Paws.

Mr. Bibbles, my house bunny, has been my most recent inspiration.

I paint bunnies whenever I can. If you have never had an intimate relationship with a rabbit, you have no idea what you are missing! They are funny, and mischievious, and just lovely to look at.

And here is Mitta in her P.J.s.

More than any other, my grandmother has always been my inspiration. She's strong and courageous. Primitively beautiful. She taught me to love trees and clean air, and how to tell weather from the Goldenrod. She is a wonderful woman. She is my "bestest" chickadee.
