With
the explosion in popularity of
collecting wristwatches in the mid 1980s,
Joe
DeMesy pioneered the business of
buying
and selling
pre-owned timepieces
and was one
of the first dealers to
recognize
the hobby's long-term potential. Subsequently
recognizing
that no price guides existed
to
help newer
collectors identify
and
value
Swiss and
American watches, Joe
teamed
up with fellow
dealer Roy Ehrhardt and
co-authored a series
of reference books
which
are still widely in
use to this day.
Joe DeMesy has acted as a price consultant
to both dealers and major auction houses alike,
and is a founding member of the International Watch & Jewelry Guild, an
associate member of Sothebys.com, a member of the Jewelers Board of Trade, and a
lifetime member of the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors. He
has also received the IWJG's 1992 "Presidential Award for Wristwatch Excellence"
-- in addition to many other awards and honors.
