Owned and operated by Jim and Jean Scott, Discount has been a full time stamp business since 1983 and was part time from 1965 to 1983. We have retired from most professional organizations but were long time members of the American Stamp Dealers Association, dealer members of the American Philatelic Society, the Confederate Stamp Alliance, Stamp Dealers Association of Georgia (past president), the North Carolina Postal History Society, the North Carolina Numismatic Society, Houston Philatelic Society (Past President), Charlotte Philatelic Society, Charlotte Fortnightly Club and other philatelic groups.

Discount operated a retail stamp and coin store from 1983 until 1999, and was a boothholder at numerous local, regional, national and international(3) shows. In recent years our primary sales activity has been on the internet. On June 1, 2000, we relocated from Charlotte one hundred miles west to beautiful Tryon, North Carolina, where the mountains begin.

Jim is a former philatelic exhibitor, with many awards, including participation in the very first APS Tournament of Champions. He does extensive appraisal work for local and regional banks, attorneys and collectors. Jim is a Past President of the Charlotte (Dilworth) Rotary Club and currently an active member of the Thermal Belt Rotary Club in Tryon and a Past Rotary Assistant Governor for the Western North Carolina District. In 2003 Jim was elected to the Town Council in Tryon and was re-elected in 2005 for four more years.
