Beginning in 1988
In April 1988, Disks O'Plenty Inc. was established by Marlene Toepel (ME!). Originally we did mail order through computing magazines featuring software for the Commodore 64/128 computers on 5.25 floppy disks. We soon added Amiga and IBM inventories. Eventually we added 3.5 floppy disks and dropped the 5.25 floppies and the C64. Then the Amiga was terminated. I personally was sorry to see these machines go. The Commodore offered alot of freeware, color graphics, and a SID chip that provided sound at a minimum of disk space at a time when the IBM compatible software was clumsy and unattractive. The Amiga was versatile, multi-tasking and provided graphics for the movie industry the IBM clones could only dream of.
Age of the Clones
We started doing Computer Shows and Ham Fests, this allowed me to remain a stay at home mom during the week and do the shows on the weekend. Slowly Windows made an appearance and software selections became more abundant (and much more costly). Windows 95 edged out DOS, and the ever evolving Windows made a perpetual market for the computing industry. Graphics and sound improved but required an ever increasing amount of memory and disk space. And the CD-Roms answered this need. Now Gigs of information, video, etc. are available on DVDs. And it Hasn't stopped yet, there is more to come. Now the kids are grown and the internet has contributed to the decline of computer show attendance. So here I am working on the internet and trying to make a buck or two, (here at the eBay store and on our Website) so we can avoid the hazards of the dire predictions for us baby boomers! I'm a pretty nice person and will attempt to work out any problems. In the rare event of having to return a defective item, I'll stick in a freebie or two to compensate for your shipping and handling expense. All of our software is NEW -- FACTORY ORIGINAL!! And we package orders extremely well to help them arrive undamaged.
