warmest welcome, and let me introduce myself by sharing some of my
personal history with you. In this way, you may come to understand my
personal values, and my desire to offer and maintain a

experiences. Let me explain how I arrived at my life as it is today,
the life of a loving mother, grandmother, and kindergarten teacher,
blessed with the energy and love of children to establish and provide

As
sometimes sadly happens, I had the misfortune of losing my mother in
infancy and my dear father some years later. His struggle to care for
me was daily apparent, and it engendered in me a desire to make his
life a little easier by committing myself to independent play at a very
early age. While playing with my dolls, I saw him relax a little from
his daily burdens to enjoy some quiet time, and even to complete
household chores with greater ease. He was a kind and gentle
father, who made me feel loved every minute of my life with him, and
even at that early age, I was already eager to do anything I could to
make his life more comfortable.
Thus
finding myself frequently in solitude, my imagination gradually
captured my playtime, which was healing and calming at many levels.
Through my dolls I was able to create the life that I yearned for and
was unable to have, no matter how hard my father worked. Through my
dolls I was able to “make believe” I had a life
similar to that of my small friends. I could pretend during playtime
that I had a gentle, loving mother, lively siblings to play with, and a
light hearted father whose cares were far more manageable. Through my
dolls I was able to fully use my imagination and enter a marvelous
world that eluded me in reality. However, that lovely world of
imagination was not all about fairy tales; it was also strengthening my
character in ways that would sustain me in difficult life struggles
ahead. Gradually I learned that enduring hardship and emerging
successfully, is dependant on our will to survive and the energy and
resourcefulness we put into it, made gentle by a good sense of humor
and a belief in the goodness of mankind.
I
thank my good father for many of my strengths; including the bravery I
mustered to begin my doll clothes company. He encouraged me in play,
knowing his own limitations and seeing that dolls were a world I could
enter independently of him and enjoy at my own pace. Those
early promptings helped develop my character and the ability to know
what I wanted to do with my life.
When
childhood retreated, my father encouraged me to pursue a higher
education. We both knew that my nature was inclined toward working with
young people. I had empathy for the needs of children and an
appreciation for the importance of their development. Teaching was the
only career that even remotely interested me and I approached it with
glee, with discipline and his loving confidence and support.
Eventually
with university complete, the train of life events which included
marrying, raising a family and becoming a proud grandmother were mine.
My love of children and ability to teach is a treasured gift and has
sustained and enriched my life. It continues very much to do so now, as
I continue to teach kindergarten with a love and understanding for
young children that has continued throughout the years.
At
an adventurous time in my life, I moved overseas to a third world
country as a teacher. With limited resources and an insatiable desire
to provide creative play and learning opportunities for my young
charges, I was constantly creating games as well as puppet and role
playing adventures. No teacher is successful without great insight to
the individual needs of their students. Dedicated educators recognize
the importance of mental stimulation through quality play time where
children are allowed to use their imaginations, with reality
temporarily left behind. I was the strongest of advocates as
you can imagine!
As
a teacher one also observes the variety of detail that best engages a
child, so being able to choose from a wide source to inspire each child
becomes a quest and a significant accomplishment when attained. This is
