Hi, my name is Rita. Welcome to my ebay store and I hope you have a pleasant experience shopping here with us. We appreciate your business and all the support to the Kunas group that I am working with who are in the need of selling their molas to solve many of their economic problems (education for their children's, medical) and help them keep their traditional life and culture, feel free to ask any questions, e-mail RitaSmith@Clearwire.net.
I am very passionate about what I sell, I grew up around the kuna art, my relative work in San Blas Island for more than 5 years in the medical field.
My aim is customer satisfaction, great communication, friendly super fast delivery of your order and above all high quality molas.
I am a native Panamanian, born and raised in a very small popular town, home to mountains and coast, where skeletal remains and tools dating from the Pre-Columbian period are displayed. This small town has many handicraft markets, is also surrounded by beaches, tourist and where the people take great pride of our Folklore, "La Pollera & El Montuno" Panama's national dress.
I attended Panama Canal College and other Universities, my mother always taugh me the love for my culture, traditions, folklore and my country.
My passion: collecting molas, pottery and handicraft from Panama, specially from my town "Penonome, Cocle".
I moved to the USA back in the 90's, my husband job transfer. I have a girl and a boy who love molas specially sea life animals, he also decorate his room with molas.
I go back to Panama frequently to see my family and of course to visit my kuna friends in the Islands and buy molas, handicraft which I use to decorate my home and others for sell.
My husband started Drydenroad on eBay, then I saw the possibilities of selling some of my mola collection on eBay and also buying more molas from the Kunas to support their economic needs (education, medical, etc). I had seen the Kunas struggle for more than 20 years meanwhile I lived in Panama, our mission is to put people before profit, the sale of the molas will help their community to prosper, enabling them to solve many of their needs.
I started my own website that allow me to offer all my customers this exquisite and Superb Textile Art and the opportunity to share with them a little bit more about the richest of my culture and the beauty of San Blas Islands-Kuna Yala.
A Paradise "San Blas, Kuna Yala"
The San Blas islands stretch along approximately 200 miles of Panama's Caribbean coastline and the San Blas reservation also known as "Kuna Yala", a group of nearly 400 islands home to the Kuna Indians of Panama. The Kuna say they have 365 islands, one for every day of the year.
One of the most beautiful parts of Panama is the archipielago of San Blas, gorgeous, unspoiled, unexploited and relatively unknow Island Paradise. Named the San Blas Islands by the spaniards and officially known as Kuna Yala (Territory of the Kunas).
The Kunas are very protective of their natural resources as they are special spiritual rapport with the nature. Their territory is jealously guarded and no traspassing of the "wagas" (non-Kunas) is allowed.
The Kunas have a structured society that adheres to strict rules. Kuna elders meet on a regular basis and decide the regulations and programs that need to be implemented. Womens are held on high regard and they are considered the pillars of the society.
