Hi, my name is Bernadette. I'm a full time artist, working primarily in acrylics, and my company's name is Ducks in a Row Art Studio. Most of the subject matter for my artwork is North American landscapes and wildlife, but I also enjoy painting domestic animals, portraits of people, and historic sites. Ever since I can remember, I've had a passion for animals and the outdoors. My chosen career allows me to do two of the things I love best: painting and spending time enjoying nature. I gather reference for my artwork by sketching and photographing everywhere from my backyard and local nature centers, to wildlife refuges and national parks.
I've been fortunate to study with some of today's top wildlife artists at the Beartooth School of Art in Montana: John Seerey-Lester, Terry Isaac, Paco Young, Dan Smith, Carl Brenders, and Robert Bateman. My work is exhibited in various locations throughout the US, and is in private collections in the US and Canada. I've been published in the River Otter Journel and the annual calendar produced by the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters. My first interst in painting was due to the Federal Duck Stamp Contest (thus, the name for my company!). I continue to paint wildlife stamps and have received Honorable Mentions in the South Carolina Duck Stamp competition and the Wyoming Conservation Stamp contest. My work has appeared on 2 Canadian Conservation Stamps, Manitoba and Saskatchewan, both issued in 2005. Although I've been trading on eBay for awhile, I'm just venturing into selling some of my art on the site. I'm currently working on a web site and newsletter and hope to have both off the ground by the end of this year.
