I would first like to thank all of my awesome repeat customers for their support in keeping my dreams alive. I don’t think that there is a better compliment than someone enjoying your work so much that they come back for more. My name is Christina Burkhart and I was born in a small town in Southern California in 1984. Both of my parents are jewelry design artists and I grew up traveling to different art shows ever since I was 1 year old. Throughout my life there was never a question in my mind that some day I too would be an artist. I have explored so many different mediums before I came to find the world of glass such as ceramics, lost wax casting, lapidary work, water colors, etc. I started making beads in 2005 and have just stuck to it ever since then. To me glass is just like a precious gemstone, no two beads are exactly alike and they always take up a personality of their own. The colors of borosilicate are also so fascinating. They have ethereal qualities and the way they refract and reflect light is just mesmerizing to me. I love making pieces that are unique and full of depth and detail. I am mostly self taught and strive to bring pieces to you that are different than anything you would see anywhere else. In 2006 I came up with my under-water sea beads because I moved from California and missed the ocean. I was published in The Flow magazines 2006 edition of Women in Glass in a how-to article. I am looking forward to writing more articles in the future when my time permits. I have also taken the liberty to take a trip to Murano, Italy where the Italian glass masters show off their work! Besides the glass arts world I am also a student at our local community college. To me my art is an expression, a feeling that you can convey without words.
