Do You Remember sitting on the front porch after supper? ...sheets on the clothesline? ...cranking the ice cream maker? ...when cups had saucers, and supper was served at the table on pretty dishes?
"Going Green", recycling and "re-purposing" are most certainly not newfangled notions! This was a daily way of life for our grandparents and the generations preceding them. Only in the past 50-odd years have we become a 'throw-away' society, wanting the latest and shiniest of everything.
I'm amazed and thrilled at the young customers we continue to encounter, each one searching for remnants of simpler times.

Some of my earliest and best memories are of going with my Dad on Saturdays to the auctions -- Central Texas livestock auctions. I was his cowpoke, and there was nothing better at that moment in life than trying to discern the auctioneer's jabber, and a piece of coconut pie from the auction's cafe, served on a thick green glass plate. Humble beginnings for my Fire King Jade-ite collection! My mom and grandmas had kitchens full of brightly colored mixing bowls and shakers, glass and metal canisters, and there was always a bright floral tablecloth underneath blue willow or assorted floral banded dinnerware.
Climbing up our windmill to watch for the trains in the distance, shooting marbles up under my grandma's treadle sewing machine pedal to get her attention, riding 'shotgun' on a gray & red tractor, polishing the big clawfoot pedestal table and lyre-backed chairs before company came, watching the sunlight make rainbows on the wall as it hit the glass doorknobs and chandelier prisms, and riding my own horse through the pasture to watch the branding, hay baling or the sheep shearing -- were everyday occurences, and I assumed all children knew these things.
Moving to NW Arkansas, the livestock auctions gave way to 'farm sales', and their vast array of old quilts, pretty pink and green glass dishes, creamy pottery and strange looking (for a Texas girl!) old farm tools.
We all remember and cherish the past simplicity of childhood; when cups had saucers, meals were served at the dinner table from pretty bowls and platters; when the front porch was a favorite gathering place for friends and family; clotheslines full of linens soaked up sunshine and fresh air, and making ice cream was an all afternoon event.
That's the mission of Glory & Grace -- to bring the simplicity and grace of those days back to you, our customers both old and new!
