Hi Ebay Communtiy, My name is Hunter and I am a buyer on eBay, bidding & winning since 2002 with 100% positive feedback. I'm not an eBay seller yet, but have helped several friends who are sellers: doing photography, PhotoShop, copy writing, and research. I have a broad knowledge including antiques, Mid-century Modern, vintage photographs, books, records, films(16mm & 35mm), camera, motion picture equipment, automobiles, motorcyles, bicycles, paper items and more. COLLECTING: Years ago I worked on Saturdays buying stuff at yard sales then re-seeling it all the next day at an amazing flea market(in Sausalito,CA). A few years later I worked at a friend's large antique store where I did appraisals, display, sales & shipping. (Sorry if this sounds like a resume!) I learned a lot over the years about collectibles, antiques, records & books from other collectors and from my own collecting. ONE of my best sources for learning, while working at that antique store, was from the collectors that came in to browse & buy. This served as a great knowledge builder for me about many areas of collecting, including rare fountain pens, jewelry, glassware, medals & badges, sports memorabelia & early phonographs. MY own, incurable collectomania (thanks for the term Mak) started when I was ten years old. Some friends and I went into the woods to dig up dinosaur bones or dig a hole all the way to China, can't recall which... Instead we dug a little and found old bottles in the ground. It was like finding a treasure chest! That day was the start of a lifetime of collecting old things. DURING my youth I spent 5 years attending a monthly gathering called The Collector's Study in the Seattle area. Each month a collector take his/her turn to bring their collection of things and give a one-hour lecture, a truly informative & fascinating show & tell. It was a richly varied exposure to many different collectibles and taught me what to look for when doing my own collecting, and later on, appraising of antiques & vintage items. The wealth of vocabulary I learned then still serves me well. Try these words: pontal, kick-up, applied lip, turn mould, frosted, pre-Prohibition... and those are just the old bottle terms! ONE of those bottle-digging friends of my youth went on to own that large antique store I mentioned above. It's amazing the intagible that we found on that first bottle dig! OUT of my love for movies, I ended up with a career in the film industry, working in the camera & lighting department, props, special effects and much more. Since 1981 I've worked on TV commercials, TV shows(Northern Exposure, my proudest work), feature films, live concert films, and documentaries. ONE of the many job titles I've had was as a Prop Scout. I was actually payed to go to yard sales, flea markets and estate sales to buy props! It was like being on a scavenger hunt with a nearly unlimited budget, lots of fun. ANOTHER job title I had often was that of Location Scout. Many of those jobs were on car commercials, which took me to cities all over the U.S. and thru lots of small towns in rural areas. The thing I noticed in those towns was that none of them had a cinema anymore. If there'd ever been one, it had closed down 10, 20, or even 30 years ago. For many of those townspeople it is 100 miles or more to the nearest cinema. Reality: there were kids & young adults in those towns who had never seen an actual projected film on the screen. No matter how many thousands of hours of TV & videos they had seen, it couldn't equal the magic of the dancing light of real films on the big screen. BASED on that, I decided to bring that magic to small towns, as a gift to them. I call it Highway Cinema, with a simple objective: Bringing Cinema To The Heartland. (One midwestern newspaper mis-qouted me by saying that my goal was "to bring cinnamon to the heartland." Ha!) One man in a Montana town was 92 years old and said he hadn't been to the movies in 45 years. He loved that I included a Charlie Chaplin film in my program. SINCE 1993 I've been showing films in small towns in the U.S., across Canada and on the west coast of Mexico. I travel with a 16mm movie projector, a folding screen, a sound system and a wonderful collection of short films. My show includes Harrod Blank's film Wild Wheels, which is an off-beat movie about art cars. Typically, a one month tour costs me less than a week at a Club Med... MOVIE menu:I show mostly comedy movies, having taken a clue from Readers Digest years ago, that laughter is the best medicine. I've presented over 700 free shows so far, and I'll be touring again soon, though with a different kind of transportation(see my website link above). SURE, my cinema shows movies, but it's really turned out to be a catalyst for getting people to come out for an evening, away from the isolated experience of TV watching, to have a social evening in their community. Don't be fooled by the old Norman Rockwell images of the heartland; many people living in the heartland now live much faster lives, and are not sitting on the porch tellng stories to the neighbor kids. They are more likely to be found inside with the AC on high, watching satellite TV (yeah, over 600 channels and there's still nothing on...). IT was my traveling cinema project that brought me to eBay. I buy 16mm films on eBay, where I have found an eclectic variety of film reels on auction. I've met some really excellent people through eBay transactions! I actually found some old friends selling films on eBay that I had met many years earlier through the great print publication The Big Reel. THINGS I collect: 16mm films, vintage Mexican movie posters, books about gypsies, old photos of boats & ships, vintage home movies & vacation snapshots, vintage photo slides, vintage Mexican tourist souvenirs(aka gringo trinkets & kitsch), vintage sombreros, old photos of Mexico, vintage photos & postcards of travel trailers, and vinyl 45's & LP's: Bossa nova, opera, jazz, latin, exotica/tiki/lounge, calypso, Italian, French, Delta blues, reggaeton, ska & reggae, and spoken word recordings. CURRENT project: I've written a movie script that is a Spanish-language comedy. I'll be producing & directing this feature film in Mexico. Mostof the cast & crew will be Mexicanos. I speak Spanish very well. (Tengo Mexico en la piel!) This film will debut in film festivals, then the commerical theatrical circuit in Mexico, on to cinemas in Puerto Rico and then to the many regional hispanic/latino cinemas in the US and Canada. WHERE am I? divide my time between the US & Mexico, where I continue to work in the motion picture industry. I currently reside in the American southwest, where I'll soon be transforming a vintage Pullman train car into a home. THANKS for taking the time to read about me here on eBay.
