Variety of Artwork Created using my Fabrics
My fabric which was embellished by Textile Artist Shophie Gelfi

My Background...

is that I have worked in the garment and textile industry for over 14 years. Which involved various positions that included sales, buying, designing, managing, and as a researcher in textiles. I attended the University of Minnesota and received a BS degree in apparel science and design. I have done several commissioned pieces of fabric, for a variety of different clients. I have taken variety of courses in web development, marketing, and surface design technique courses. While attending college and working on a research grant, I found I had a great deal more interest in fabrics. The science behind them, different ways in which they were made, and the variety of applications you can apply to them. The creation process involved in making fabrics really intrigued me. The part I found most interesting was printing and dyeing process.

My inspiration...

comes from the true beauty seen in nature, the forms, textures, and colors. I collect many objects from nature and from trips I have taken. I love the texture of bark, the veins in leaves, the beauty of colors seen in tropical the wildlife and animals. The shapes, colors, texture, and intricacy of beautiful landscapes. The vastness and mysterious of universe is another inspiration for me. Making my art fabric first the creation of the design must be done. Initially the inspiration must be discovered what message do I want to send to the viewer? What emotion do want to evoke from my fabrics. My fabrics might not have the same message or emotion I intended them to, but a response from the viewer is main objective I have. As most artists do.

About My Silk Fabrics

1.Charmeuse has a pearl satin look and crepe or plain back. The drape is gorgeous, falls close to the body. It is luxurious, it's final uses for lingerie, blouses, pillows, linings, kimonos and evening wear.

2. China Silk and Habotai means "soft as down" in Japanese. It has a very smooth, even weave which leands itself to a extermly even surface, slight sheen, and very lightweight. It is used for scarves, dresses, blouses and for lining. Also and it is great silk for painting and dyeing.

3. Raw Silk It is a slightly nubby fabric with random flecks in a natural, off-white color. It has a somewhat rough texture and gentle drape and it dyes well. Strong and soft for a silk, Noil is perfect for machine washable garments, and softens upon washing. Takes well to silk dyes.

4.Silk Chiifon An elegant, sheer fiber, and with a soft beautiful drape and a crepe like texture. The fabric is sheer. Takes dyes exceptionally well reflecting strong, deep colors. Very easy to dye and paint and responds well to all painting styles and techniques. Fiber is ideal for scarves, shawls and etc...

5.Silk Crepe An elegant, with a soft beautiful drape and a nice sheen on the surface. The hand of the fabric is so soft and luxurious. The texture is finely pebbled. The weft is woven with tightly twisted threads resulting in a little spring.

6.Silk Gauze An elegant, sheer fiber with a soft beautiful drape. Fabric is very sheer with a soft floaty appearance. It is very light, and somewhat transparent. It is also used for veils.

7. Silk Dupioni It has a similar look to shantung but it has a few more slubs in the fiber. It has a crisp, firm hand with small amount texture, subtle luster. It is a Chinese Dupion not an Indian Dupion, therefore it does not have as much texture to it and slubbing.
