Welcome to my eBay
"About Me" page!
Hi
there...I have been a collector of old - primarily 19th century - bottles for 43+ years (where did the time go?).
My bottle
collecting has been general in nature - not specializing in anything in
particular (except for medicinal tonic bottles to some degree). I collect everything from Western glob top whiskey cylinders and flasks, to New England Pitkins, to western
blob sodas, bitters, Oregon bottles, early American, etc. Not a lot of everything,
but an assortment within every category of late 18th, 19th, and very early 20th century American bottles.
I also collect books dealing with the development and history of Western
rangelands and ranching - particularly in the Northwest; historical works on
Oregon and its settlement; 19th century Western American maps...and just about
anything that reflects the legend and lore of the 19th century West.
I have been an eBay member since November 15, 1997.
Historic Glass Bottle Identification & Information Website
Want to know more
about historic American bottles?
If you have general questions about
antique bottles or just want to know more about this fascinating subject, click
Historic
Bottle Website
to view the comprehensive website that I have created as a cooperative effort between the Bureau of Land Management (in the
U. S. Department of Interior and my now ex-employer) and the Society for Historical Archaeology. This site was designed to answer general bottle age & type (i.e. typology or what a bottle was
used for) questions for most American-made bottles produced between about
1800 until the 1950s. It also provides a wealth of information on
glassmaking, bottle & bottle use history, and a lot, lot more.
If that site doesn't answer your questions send an email.
If you provide
a good description of the bottle in question and include a clear digital picture
or pictures, I will try to help but no guarantees.
Less information and I may not be able to tell you much. Be aware
that there were
literally hundreds of thousands of different type bottles produced
during the 19th and early 20th century and published information is available for
only a very small percentage of them. (For example, there were well over 15,000 different
embossed Hutchinson soda bottles alone made between the 1880s and 1910s!) However, many physical
manufacturing related features of bottles give clues to the age and utility of most bottles.
I may not get back immediately (I get lots of questions) but
try to answer every reasonably descriptive email received within a couple
weeks.
Bottles & Bottle Books for
sale at www.historicbottles.com!
I also maintain
"Bottles & Bottle Books for Sale" webpages
at thes links:
Bottles For Sale Main Page
and
Bottle
Books Page . I also will occasionally sell items (books and bottles) on eBay but primarily sell historic bottles and useful
out-of-print bottle books through my personal website as an adjunct to the educational aspects of
my
Historic
Bottle Website noted above. (I need to divest myself of many of the bottles I acquired to illustrate the that website.)
My website also has several other pages with information of interest,
including a page that has a listing of all known (to me so far) medicinal
tonic bottles, which I hope to turn into a book someday.
I offer a no questions asked, 7 day full return privilege & refund (full
sales price) on all sales! I also use all recycled materials for packing items to be shipped...a better use of resources and keeps the shipping costs for buyers down to just the postage cost itself - there is no charge for packing materials or handling!
Regardless of the materials used, our packing is done to ensure the arrival
of the item intact and undamaged.
