I learned to knit at my Grammy Pazdyk knee, many, many years ago. (Way back then, I didn know that she knit in the Continental style or that most people used patterns to knit sweaters Grammy never did!) Since that time, knitting has evolved into one of my life great passions. (My others are first, my husband Richard; my menageries of 4 dogs, a cat and a curmudgeonly African Grey parrot; gardening; and trips to Maine).

During college and then throughout my professional life in the pharmaceutical industry, knitting remained a constant. Every business trip to a new city always included a stop and usually a purchase at the local yarn shop. Unabashedly Il tell you that my yarn stash first outgrew the guestroom closet, then the guestroom itself, the cedar closet and overflowed into the basement. I recently became lucky enough to own a local yarn shop in Phoenixville, PA, The Knitting Basket.

And here I must diverge for a moment to urge those of you lucky enough to have a Local Yarn Shop (LYS) to support them first and always whenever possible. Knitting is and always will be more than a craft, it is a historical fiber art form that feeds the senses, provides a unifying social forum for women, and feeds our souls.
