What can I do with a border?
Interior designers combine wallpapers and borders to enliven rooms with
dramatic, one-of-a-kind treatments. It's easy, once you know the secret! Here
are just a few techniques you can use to add flair and fashion to your walls:
- Use borders as chair rails. Use one wallpaper pattern beneath the chair
rail and another pattern above it.
- Wallpaper the fifth wall—your ceiling. Use a mini print, faux texture or
other non-direction overall pattern to make the job easier.
- Lower your ceiling by placing the border a few inches below the ceiling
line.
- Raise your ceiling by placing the border on the ceiling, following the
wall line.
- Use two borders together at the ceiling line to create an architectural
effect.
- Place a border around the edge of your floor. Apply it with carpenter's
glue, and then brush on a coat of polyurethane.
- Add dimension and attractive architectural detail with white embossed
paintable wallpaper and borders. Embossed papers can be used to easily cover
over cracked surfaces and can be painted or sponged to create distinctive
wall décor.
... and few more creative tips:
-
Frame door and window moldings
with wallpaper border. Miter the edges, that is, trim each end diagonally so
they meet together at a clean angle, for a professional look.
-
Dress up an unframed mirror,
like the kind in a bathroom, with a border frame. Again, miter the edges.
-
Mat an inexpensive picture
with border before framing.
How to hang border?
The wallpaper borders are easily can make your room to look much

into corners. Measure width of border paper, pencil width on the wall. Apply
primer/sealer to wall surface in the penciled area. Let dry. (When
installing border over existing wallpaper apply vinyl-to-vinyl adhesive to
border.)
Wet border in water tray. Fold and book according to manufacturer's
instructions. Hang border, wrapping corners about 1/4" and smoothing as you
go. Wipe with damp sponge to remove excess paste. Dry with clean rag.
