I was born in the south of France, in Provence - some time before Peter Mayle wrote his now-famous accounts of Mediterranean life. My husband and I chose international careers, and lived many years in Canada, East and West Africa, and Mexico.
Over the years we moved from the shadows of the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia to central New England and then to the beautiful Mississippi Gulf Coast. We still travel together worldwide whenever we get a chance. Recent journeys include the Dominican Republic, Montreal, Mexico City, Nepal, and the Middle East. Each year we venture by car through the beautiful scenery of France. This year we went to Alsace in the lower Rhine Valley and stayed in a late renaissance compound built on the medieval ramparts of the walled city of Obernau.
When Hurricane Katrina ripped through the Gulf of Mexico, its powerful center focused on a collision course with my little community of Diamondhead, MS. The outlook for us here on the Gulf Coast was very bleak. I can't tell you how much your good wishes and prayers have meant to me in the ensuing days.
