![]() Mary Ann Testagrossa, Watercolors & Jewelry Drawing and painting since childhood, I have always been an artist. Born and raised in New York City, I began formal art studies in high school and went on to attend the Fashion Institute of Technology before settling in the majestic Pacific Northwest. During my early period, I learned all facets of the art world, trying my hand as a graphic artist, sign painter, framer, and managing a gallery for over a decade. Watercolor painting has been my passion for over 20 years. Over the course of this time, my subject matter has evolved. What has stayed constant for me, though, is that I am trying to communicate a sense of beauty, peace and serenity through the work. Currently I am best known for my watercolor floral paintings. My florals, once again, are about re-creating beauty; enlarging and enhancing that which is already beautiful. As an amateur gardener, I combine my passions of art and gardening. I grow the flowers, photograph them, and then use them for my watercolor composition. I consider myself a color addict. I LOVE how watercolor pigments glow on fresh clean paper, much like the colors of light through stained glass. The simplicity of the materials, combined with the beauty created by the hues and tones is the perfect combination for my vehicle of self expression. Three years ago, I decided to try another medium, polymer clay. Oh my!!! What did I get myself into? I LOVE IT TOO! Polymer clay is a clay you can bake in your oven to harden so it is very versatile. No kiln needed. This clay also comes in a large array of colors, so for a color addict, I'm in heaven. I am finding there are so many techniques and ideas I have yet to try with the clay. I find it very exciting. When polymer clay hardens, the colors are permanent and the clay is lightweight and very durable. Perfect medium for jewelry. I have made jewelry on and off for years, but since discovering this clay, I finally feel I have a medium that I can grow with for years to come. Currently my jewelry is exhibited at the Morris Graves Museum of Art in Eureka California, and at local art fairs. My watercolors are represented by Humboldt Artworks in Arcata, CA, Art Source LA in San Francisco and Monterey, CA, The Art Collector in San Diego, CA, and Soho Myriad Gallery in Atlanta, GA.
