About Me: Traktor Topaz and the Mobius Megatar musical instrument
Hi! On the left is a friend of mine named Myron Edwards, playing a fun new musical instrument. I'm the guy who makes these instruments.
I'm a musician too, and my (stage) name is Traktor Topaz.
Here's how I came to fall in love with this fun way to play music:
Years ago, when wandering a computer fair in San Francisco, I heard a wonderful sound, which turned out to be a synthesizer. Enamored, I got a synthesizer and slowly learned to play. It was fun playing music with two hands, chords in the left and melody in the right, and making up songs turned out to be easy.
You can imagine my surprise when one day I found an odd-looking instrument, a kind of guitar, that could be played with both hands as well. I was intrigued and tried it out.
A strange new way to play music!
It had a tuning that seemed odd to me, and it seemed to me that the method of play could be made easier, but it was really fun, like playing bass and guitar at the same time, using both hands. After several adventures in "touch-style" land, I slowly came to develop a better instrument, much easier to play.
Enlisting a couple of world-class guitar-builders for help, we went through seven prototypes, to create an instrument which would play with superior tone, and using special patented "intonation" formulas, which would sound more "in-tune" when played.
By patenting a new design of guitar strap, we made the instrument ride easily on the musician's body, and through several years of development, a simpler method of playing was developed on a simpler tuning which made learning much faster and playing more powerful.
We created the Mobius Megatar!
The result is the Mobius Megatar instrument, played with "touch-style" or "two-handed tapping" technique. (We called it a "megatar" because it's like a "mega-guitar", because it's like playing piano and bass at the same time!)
