 A little about our backgrounds, interests, and passions as they relate to our internet business. In my land based career I was CEO of a listed conglomerate with operations that included investments in an airline, a company specializing in celestial navigation, and in retailing among others. Julie headed up a small chain or retail stores, and also a direct mail operation.
Our mutual interests were in flying, boating, and collecting fine arts and antiques with either a nautical slant or in the realm of Chinese porcelains. The nature of my business involvements allowed us to travel worldwide. We appreciated visiting countries in Europe and Asia, and always came home with new and exciting things to treasure. We continue this today and offer our treasures for you to share. The picture of us together was taken in August, 2007.
Those below it are how Joel looked in various stages of his maritime career. The first picture on the left was taken in 1949, the one beside it, around 1980, and the last one at the U.S. Naval Academy, Ca 1997.

From my youngest years, I always had a deep seated interest in things maritime, had naval and maritime training, spent five years in the U.S. Navy, and was a licensed U.S. Merchant Marine officer. At mid-life, I decided to make a career change, and naturally gravitated to that calling so we moved to the Eastern Caribbean. There I headed up a small inter-island charter-cruise company. We had a glorious time for six years, but we both started to yearn to get back to a more culturally rewarding life style and returned to the States twenty years ago.
On our return, I did investment management for about ten years. Our focus shifted once again. I became a squadron commander for the Association of Naval Aviation, and as a offshore sailing team coach at the U.S. Naval Academy. It was a great time commuting back and forth between Annapolis, MD, and Florida in our boat. When age dictated that I could no longer travel long distances by boat, I looked for other ways to keep busy. Hence, after some buying and selling in a minor way on eBay, we decided to launch our business with the objective of using all our past experience and training to provide unique and different products, at fair prices, and backing them with the finest service imaginable,.
Hence, Land and Sea Collection became the source for fine navigation instruments, nautical antiques and elegant boat and airplane models. It reflects our knowledge and expertise. We strive to offer fine and interesting products such as our line of beautifully executed boat models representing some of the best designs in the American lexicon of naval architecture. New and used sextants which we search for worldwide. They range from antiques to contemporary. Our Nautical antiques run the gamut from very expensive to those that can be afforded and enjoyed by everyone.
We are also intent on bringing the best customer service possible to this endeavor. We are aware that buying on the internet is a new experience to many and requires a "leap of faith" for the new buyer.
