My Connection to Music I can remember when I was a kid and I would come home from school and ask my grandmother if I could listen to records. I would pull out the old record player and grab me some 45's and a few LP's an set down and sing along with the record. I listened a lot to the beatles, Bobby Bare, Bill Anderson, Fat's Domino, Jerry Butler & many, many others. Know when I hear one of those old songs, I can still remember what the record label was and what it looked like. I use to thing that the imperial label kinda looked like a multi colored yard rake. I still picture those old yellow and orange capitol labels in my mind, along with many others. I used to dream that one day I was going to be a big star. I later learned to play the guitar and played with a few other guys in different small bands. We used to get on the front porch and sing in a pretend microphone, sometimes pretend guitars too!!! We were called the mosquitos at one time, because of all the bites we would get as kids standing on that front porch until dark singing. We later became COBRA and finally FIRE & ICE. We never made it big though, we got to caught up in girls. My dreams turned into having a music bussiness with the encouragement of friends telling me that as much as I know about music, I should open up a music store. So, here I am !!!! I don't like or love a song because it is what is popular or hip to listen too. I like it because of the sound, or the lyrics, or because the artist is just so talented. Some of the best songs I ever heard has never played on the radio. I hear people sometime that pics up a tape, CD, or record, and they look at it and will say, "I never heard of any of these songs" I ask them if they like the artist. They say yes, Love them. Then I will say, well if you love the artist and they are a talented artist, the songs should be good rather you heard them before or not. Some of Percy Sledges best songs, were not his most famous ones. Even though his famous one's are all good to me too. The same for Randy Travis and many others. So many times you see artist, especially young artist that attracts teenagers, they will come out and be so popular for about 3 or 4 years and after that , the teenagers will laugh at someone if they hear them listening to there music. That is not what music is about to me. Music is something wonderful that years down the road, you can hear a song that will transport you back to where you were and what you were doing, and even whom you were with, when you listened to it. Music is a big part of my life personally, not just a source of income, it is in my SOUL !!!!! I am a Native American Indian from the Pee Dee Indian Tribe of South Carolina. I have been the Tribal Chairman since 1996. I love my heritage and am very proud of who I am. I love to go to pow wows, and sweats lodge ceremonies along with other cultural ceremonies. I also love bowling, fishing , hunting, boating, auto racing, camping, just about anything outdoors. I love to swim, dance, sing, & watch movies. I listen to my music collection often. I still like to put an LP on the turntable. I have DJ'd for quite awhile now. I love my family and spending time with my kids. I love being around the elders and listening to their wisdom. I sometimes do not like what society is becoming or has become. There is not enough love, and too much deception in some people. I say be yourself, that is what makes you who you are. Let other people see the real you and then decide from an honest perspective rather you are right for them. The greatest thing that we can do is love each other, and not look down on someone else because they might have a smaller car, house, or don't have the name brand clothes. You can lose everything just as fast if not faster than you got it, so remember that you could be in their shoes tomorrow. I could say a lot more about myself, but my fingers are getting tired now.
