Smart Cookie Designs



Smart Cookie Designs is a labor of love for me and evolved from a love of beautiful things and a concern for the environment. Until a few years ago, I was a corporate manager in commercial real estate investment. “Cookie” was a nickname I acquired while practicing in Boston’s Financial District - hence "Smart Cookie" was a perfect name for my design business.

My grandmother had her own tailoring shop in the 50's where she often designed clothing for her clients. As a child, I had a fabulous wardrobe filled with lovely dresses made from the leftover silks, cottons and linens. However, as with most children of the era, I only wanted something that hung on a rack at Sears! If only I could have my childhood wardrobe now!

Despite my exposure to creativity throughout my early years, I took a traditional college route. A few years after graduation, I found myself in a high stress job, needing a hobby. I had a sewing machine so I thought "why not"? My very first project was a pair of boxer shorts for my husband and I was hooked! I then began designing outfits for my nieces, made all the drapery treatments in any home we've had, made furniture slipcovers and made most of my gifts - for any occasion.

A few years ago, bolstered by the support of my husband, friends and family, I launched Smart Cookie Designs. Though I make only of fraction of my former income, I am so much happier!

I specialize in reuse and repurposing of existing materials. Reclaimed fabrics, trims, jewelry, etc. all find their way into my designs, creating a touch of whimsy and relieving the waste stream. When you purchase a Smart Cookie Designs piece, you can feel good about the uniqueness of your purchase and your part in saving the environment.

Until recently, I lived on the coast of southern Maine (hence, my ebay seller's id: pamela-in-maine), but have since relocated to my native Florida. While New England was a strong design influence for me, Florida's flora and fauna is now my muse!

In addition to my ebay store, I sell my work though Etsy and I have a bricks & mortar shop in Sarasota, FL, named denuo. I not only carry my own line at the shop, but I carry the lines of many talented US artisans - many with a green focus. I personally LOVE the thought of reuse and repurposing existing materials.

Since I attend many area estates sales, for my raw materials, I often pick up other treasures for the shop (some vintage). I offer a sampling of these other treasures to my ebay customers as well.
