Antique Maps-Gateway to the Past

Most everbody wants to know where they are. Some of the more curious want to know where the've been (and where the world thought it used to be.) Map collecting----a non-fatal addiction--can give you a fascinating window to the past.
Colored Pieces of Paper (Like $$$)

Maps are, by their very nature, a changeable item. Out of date? Throw it away! But not everybody did and what remains many times has a value far, far in excess of its original price. No guarantees...but even I have found a $1,000.00 map at a garage sale. So if you find an interesting map, call or fax me at 858.571.2031 and perhaps I can tell you if it's treasure or just a nice colored piece of paper. And, I am always in the market for old (1920 or earlier) atlases as well as Annual Reports of the Superintendent of the U.S. Coast Survey (years 1851 through 1869.)
A Bit of History

We have been selling map now for almost 15 years. This after a 30 year US Navy career during which I collected maps of all the places I visited. I also shopped on behalf of dealers and in this way learned a lot aboput the business. I was fortunate to have some great mentors: the late Bob Ross, Dick Fitch in Santa Fe NM and George Robinson who for many years had a gallery in Taos NM. San Doego is no center of maps interest so ebay casme along as a real way to expand my business, especially to overseas buyer. With over 10,000 items in stock, I strive to get 50 or so a month up for auction...doing the math, clearly some family member is going to inherit a load of old maps one of these days!!
