Thank you for visiting my Me Page.
As you may have noticed, I sell mostly fishing tackle and other outdoor related items. I have been into fishing as long as I can remember, but I guess it was around age eleven or twelve that I got really serious about my angling.
I thought that I would do something a little bit different with my Me Page. Instead of telling you a bunch of boring personal details, I thought I would use this page to share with you a little bit about some of my favorite lures.
In-Line Spinner: Mepps Aglia
#1 1/8oz Silver with Black Squirrel Tail
If I was going fishing, and you told me I could only take one lure, this would be my choice. I've caught more fish on this bait than anything else. I've caught, every kind of Sunfish that swims, Perch, Trout, Pickerel, Crappie, Sandbass, Drum, Catfish, Smallmouth, Walleye, a few small Pike, and even some hefty Largemouths on this little spinner. The Mepps easy use, and effectiveness, makes this lure a must for every tackle box.
Spoon: Acme Little Cleo
1/3oz Nickel
Spoons are a vastly underrated bait in modern fishing. The Little Cleo is excellent for schooling fish like Sandbass and Crappie. With it's simple combination of flash and wobble it's effective on a wide range of fish from panfish, trout, and gamefish alike.
Spinnerbait: No Brand
1/4oz Double Colorado White or Chartreuse/White
I don't have a favorite brand of spinnerbait; Strike King, Stanley, Booyah, Terminator and others; I've caught a lot of fish on them all. I do have a favorite configuration though. I know most people prefer Tandem Willow baits, but I've always had better success with the Double Colorado. Since I fish a lot smaller bodies of water I use the 1/4oz most often. The White and Chartreuse/White are great standby colors that are effective in just about any tinge of water.
Buzzbait: Tri-Wing Buzz King
5/16oz Black & Blue
This and the old Norman Tri-Wing are easily my favorite buzzbaits. I've tried many other tri-wing buzzbaits that feature the plastic blades, the baits with plastic blades just don't seem to put out the same amount of noise and surface disturbance as baits with the aluminum paddles.
Minnow Bait: Smithwick Rogue
ASDRB Chrome with Black Back
The Smithwick Rogue holds a special place in my tackle box and my heart. One of the first artificial baits that I ever learned to use, it has remained one of my go to lures. Most people think of jerkbaits as being mostly a spring bait, but when properly deployed this bait can and will produce fish year round.
Topwater Popper: Heddon
Pop'n Image Dance's Gizzard Shad
Poppers are great early morning baits, especially when fished around floating vegetation. The Heddon Pop'n Image with it's thicker body and natural profile is easy to cast and work. I have had a lot of success with this bait fishing around the edges, pockets, and indentions of thick grass beds that have breached the surface in and around shallow shoreline areas.
Topwater Walker: Heddon
Super Spook 5" inch Nickel
When a fisherman hears the phrase "Walk the Dog" this is bait that comes to mind. There have been a lot of quality walking baits to come out over the last several years, but the Zara Spook and Super Spook remain my favorites. The thick body is great in choppy water. Few things in fishing are more thrilling than watching a fish blowing up Heddon Spook.
Crankbaits: Bomber / Excalibur
Fat Free Shad Family
The Bomber Fat Free Shad family is a great producer for Bass. There are a couple of other baits that I prefer in this situation, or that scenario, but the series on a whole really does offer you a bait for just about every situation. From the small shallow running BD4SL, which are great for crappie and bass on farm ponds, all the way up to the beefy deep diving BD7F this series really does cover a lot of water.
Lipless Crankbaits: Bill Lewis
Rat-L-Trap 1/2oz Chrome Blue
The Rat-L-Trap is another one of those baits that just flat out catches fish. An excellent bait for finding active fish, an even better bait for schooling fish. The Rat-L-Trap comes in so many great colors, its hard to pick a favorite, but if you pressed me on it, I would pick the Chrome with Blue Back.
