Jim Cary, aka FONT size=3>Senior Softball Gurucharged into prominence on the national softball stage in September of 1978 when Newsday tabbed him as I>The Wizard, The Sorcerer of the 65 foot diamond  Paul Ballot, head sportswriter for Newsday described Jim this way,  I>Take a bit of Al Hrabosky, a bit of Mark Fidrych and a whole lot of P.T. Barnum, and you have Jim Cary, slow pitch softball pitcher extraordinaire:  the man of a thousand well, a dozen anyway moves; an admitted crowd-pleaser and hot-dogger; a salesman for the game itself; the Meadowlark Lemon of the 65 foot diamond.SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes">  The local newspaper in Longview, TX gave him the title of Senior Softball Guru in a feature article and the name stuck. 

Today, as a local retailer and an internet seller of all kinds of sports products, Jim has acquired a reputation as someone who always gives the customer what they expect, and just a little more.

Jim softball career has spanned 4 decades where he has garnered numerous All American / All World awards and has been a member of many national championship teams.  His hitting awards have included winning the national hitting accuracy contest, held by The Softball Players Association, ever year since its inception.  Four times in the last seven years he has won a national home run hitting title.

In 2000 Jim accomplished a hat trick that will probably never be duplicated.  In the Softball Players Association National Championship weekend he won the hitting accuracy contest and then went on to win the Home Run Derby and the pitching contest for a sweep of the three individual awards for the year.  In the awards ceremony he had to have help in holding the three huge trophies for the picture.

Jim was inducted into the Senior Softball Hall of Fame in 1997.  He was the leadoff hitter and pitcher for the Sawtre Texas Legends, arguably the greatest senior softball team ever assembled.
