Welcome to My About Me Page Thank you for stopping by. My fascination with sewing and embroidery began as a child. My mother was so pleased that one of her three daughters wanted to learn to sew, embroider, knit and crochet. During the winter months she let me sit by her side for hours and taught me how to use thread and a needle. I didn't take to the crochet or knitting needle, but loved the feel of that little thin embroidery/sewing needle in my fingers! And more than 50 years later, I am still taken to that peaceful place when I am using thread and little needles. In 2000 I met EBayer wrangler1943. To our surprise we lived just a couple of hours from each other. We became friends and then partners selling in our Ebay store "Yesterday's Patterns". Two ladies(?) into embroidery and collecting made for some fun times together. We collected vintage linens, books, patterns, and transfers. We reproduced the vintage designs and wrangler made them into spiral bound books. I will be listing the books and patterns that we had put together for quilt shows and the vintage linens and patterns that we used to reproduce the designs. Wrangler, a Thread and Needle Fairy, passed in July 2007 and she is sorely missed. I fell in love with an article about The Thread and Needle Fairy printed in a 1924 Royal Society booklet “History of Art Needlework” The sentiments are as valuable today as they were almost a 100 years ago. The Thread-and-Needle Fairy “The art of embroidery is exceedingly old. It came into use first as a mark of rank or distinction, either religious or social, and for many years there were laws forbidding the wearing of embroidery by persons below a certain rank. Our grandmothers considered it intolerably plebian to wear anything but hand-worked embroideries, and today there is in every woman a certain sentiment attached to embroidery done by hand just as there is to any other craftsmanship that reveals affection on the part of the worker. The Thread and Needle Fairy has written an interesting history of the domestic accomplishments of the world--a fascinating history of woman's long pilgrimage down the ages. Long before the written word had given woman a place, the Thread and Needle Fairy was at work, writing the story of her patience and skill, her loyalty and devotion, her patriotism and her artistic and creative ability. And today, although woman has come into her own, The Thread and Needle Fairy writes on. Sometimes it pens and dreams of the young bride to be, sometimes the happy lullaby of the mother, or the song of the busy housewife who would add a personal touch to her household linens; or perhaps it pens the tears of the unhappy soul, who finding solace in needlework, sews out her sorrows into pathetic bits of embroidery. But always it tells a story no written history can express---for the Thread and Needle Fairy tells the story of a woman's heart." Hopefully the Fairy’s auction offerings will foster and encourage a respect for needlework—an art that has done so much for the peace and happiness of mankind.
