Yard Sales By Shellmarie is owned and operated by me, Shelley Marie. Many years ago, around 1994, Ed had this idea that we would supplement our household income by selling items on Ebay. Well, time passed and in our busy day-to-day lives we just never got around to it.He also had this idea in the early 1980's before ebay but the family thought what for.Now others got rich. lol
In early 2003 our son was told he was being transferred from Washington DC (he was working at the Pentagon) to Belgium. He would leave in July. Ed and I had been married 23 years and had never been on vacation, so we decided this would be the perfect time! We would fly to Washington and drive back to California with our son!!!! I was so excited! We were going to take a real vacation!
We arrived in Washington on June 1 and planned to spend 2 days there before heading home. While still in Washington, Ed started getting sick and had a lot of pain-especially when he sat. As we traveled through the states the pain got worse and then he developed a high fever. By Oklahoma it was so bad that my son and I begged him to fly home with me so he could go to the hospital. He wouldn hear of it. He didn want to ruin our vacation. We could only travel a short time each day, and when we arrived in Nevada on June 10 Ed was so sick, and in so much pain he finally agreed to go to the emergency room there. The doctor said that they couldn see anything but that the ednesson his rear was probably an abscess. They gave him some pain medication and anti-biotic and told him that if it did not clear up in a week or 10 days he should see his doctor. We finally arrived home in Paradise on June 12 and Ed doctor had said not to wait, but to go straight to the Emergency room. I thank God he agreed to go. Instead of coming to the surface, the abscess(they never new what it was) had traveled inside him from the right side of his rear, to the left side of his abdomen also the right side, destroying tissue, muscles and nerves. The infection eventually cleared, but according to his doctor, the damage it caused to his body will never heal. It has been 4 years and the pain, caused by the damage to the nerves, is still so severe that most days he cannot be up for more than a few hours throughout the day. Some days, its even worse, to the point that he cannot get up at all.
We have learned that he has also developed arthritis that is causing deterioration in his tail and hip bones and parts of his spine. As if this was not enough, he has also developed golf ball like tumors all over inside him.
Ed was a Certified Nursing Assistant for several years prior to the illnesses which have permanently disabled him. He had worked primarily in nursing homes caring for the elderly and disabled early in his career then in hospitals in surgical also med surg, and that work kept him physically active. Once he could no longer do work that required any physical activity he became very bored, and very depressed.
That is when the idea surfaced again, why not try Ebay!
During his ell spells Ed would help me when I got home from work creating our store. It took several months (I work full time outside the home), but finally we were ready to open for business!!! Our store has given Ed the opportunity to work when he is not in too much pain and helps keep some of his depression at bay. Ebay is something we enjoy doing together and helps to supplement our lost income! I would never have guessed that Ebay would be such a blessing in our lives!!
