We have been selling paper collectibles since the mid 1970's. It all started when Tom won a shoebox full of stampless covers in an auction. He was fascinated and it fit in so well with his interest in history. We soon discovered that we would have to sell in order to buy! From stampless covers, our business has expanded to a full range of paper collectibles. We started out with a printed price list and doing paper shows. Then came the Internet!! We have been selling on eBay since the fall of 1997. We began slowly, but as time has become available, we have tried to increase our activity. We have stopped doing paper shows as they became more of a "social experience" than a profitable venture. We now concentrate solely on eBay selling. We now have a worldwide marketplace rather than a regional one. With good images and detailed descriptions, the potential buyer has more time to evaluate an item and make a buying decision. This makes the process much easier for the buyer as he isn't operating under a time constraint and that he can search for his area of interest at any time, rather than during a show's hours and physically going through the stock of over 200 dealers. The searching features on eBay also assist the buyer. Rather than relying on the seller's memory - "do you have such and such" - he can just enter that term and see. Also, when doing shows, the material can be organized and filed in just one category. With eBay, all things are searchable within the description. I remember being asked on one occasion if we had any trade cards with a Scottie dog on it. Our trade cards were filed by product advertised as that is the common method. Now I can describe the illustration on a card and all the words are searchable so that "Scottie dog" would show up.
