Warren Sankey outside our current location in San Francisco Founded in 1928, the United States Stamp Company joined approximately twenty other stamp dealers in the San Francisco area selling postage stamps from around the world. Seventy-plus years and three locations later, the US Stamp Company continues doing business much the same as when first opening our doors so long ago. We are now the oldest independent stamp store of its type west of the Mississippi River. Where many of the stamp shops have now closed the storefront and moved to an upstairs suite in an office building, United States Stamp Company continues to serve its customers from a street level shop whose door is always open (except on hot or rainy days!). Our founder, Earl Hamilton, retired in the early 1950s. He sold his business to Frank Sankey, a man who began his stamp collecting career some 75 years ago after receiving a stamp collection as payment for delivering newspapers. After fulfilling his lifelong dream and purchasing the company, Frank built the business into one of the most successful stamp dealers in America. Frank was dedicated to the belief that everyone should have the opportunity to collect stamps, regardless of means. Today, this attitude is reinforced by the vast selection and personal service that has won United States Stamp Company the respect and patronage of thousands of world wide collectors. When Frank retired, he passed his business on to his son, Warren, who leads US Stamp Company today. Over the years we've continued to build a world wide general stamp inventory that is unparalleled in its depth and diversity. We pity the collector who doesn't have access to a real old-fashioned stamp store, one that he or she can wander into any day during the week, 52 weeks a year, and become absorbed in their hobby. We are very proud to open our doors each day to our stamp collector public. The walls are teeming with displays of stamps, covers, books, supplies and philatelic ephemera. Each morning we open our 6 large vaults housing millions of stamps from every country imaginable. Each week we entertain visitors in our store who live in or near cities that do not have genuine stamp stores to visit. They are thrilled to discover the United States Stamp Company in San Francisco.
