The above picture shows the following items: (1) Copy of the Tower handcuff, origin still object of research. (2) Schwertfeger handcuff, patd. 1911 in Germany. (3) Stotz handcuff. (4) Berliner-style handcuff with two seperate hinges. (5) Mlenfeld No. 113 handcuff ("The Dortmunder"). (6) Berliner handcuff. (7) Handcuff of Dutch origin, end of the 19th century. (8) Handcuff of French origin, used in French prisons at the beginning of the 20th century. (9) Horst Stein handcuff, ca. 1920/1930. (10) Dollar-sign handcuff. (11) Horst Moabit flexible bow handcuff. (12) Handcuff of unknown origin, possibly German. (13) Lyon Presto handcuff from France, ca. 1930/1940. (14) German figure 8 handcuff. (15) Kayser No. 5 handcuff, better known as the "Hamburg 8". (16) 1st model Peerless handcuff, the forefather of all modern swing-through handcuffs. (17) Bagno handcuff. This device was used by the Carabinieri in Italy until the early 1980s. (18) Russian Prison handcuff.

Start a handcuff collection?
Perhaps you have found an old pair of handcuffs at a garage sale or received one from grandpa when he retired from his police career? This might well be the starting point of a new hobby, the collecting of handcuffs, leg-irons and other restraints!
I began to collect restraints when I was about 14 years old. The first items that I came across were those offered in the local gun-stores. Luckily, I soon met a friend at highschool, who collected police hats and other police memorabilia, and we often went to collectors meetings.
Today, after 19 years of collecting, I have about 530 different items and consider my collections to be one of the largest, maybe THE largest in Europe. Nevertheless, the hobby never gets boring as there is always something new to learn or to find for the collection. The pictures above will show you the most interesting items in my collection. In case you should have a question to any item, please contact me any time!
Need information?
The problem, especially for the beginner, is not only to find new items for the collection, but also to gather information upon these items. So, if you should have a handcuff and would like to know more about it e.g. the manufacturer, when and by whom it was used and whether it was patented, then feel free to contact me at any time. I look forward to hear from you!

Start a handcuff collection?
Perhaps you have found an old pair of handcuffs at a garage sale or received one from grandpa when he retired from his police career? This might well be the starting point of a new hobby, the collecting of handcuffs, leg-irons and other restraints!
I began to collect restraints when I was about 14 years old. The first items that I came across were those offered in the local gun-stores. Luckily, I soon met a friend at highschool, who collected police hats and other police memorabilia, and we often went to collectors meetings.
Today, after 19 years of collecting, I have about 530 different items and consider my collections to be one of the largest, maybe THE largest in Europe. Nevertheless, the hobby never gets boring as there is always something new to learn or to find for the collection. The pictures above will show you the most interesting items in my collection. In case you should have a question to any item, please contact me any time!

The problem, especially for the beginner, is not only to find new items for the collection, but also to gather information upon these items. So, if you should have a handcuff and would like to know more about it e.g. the manufacturer, when and by whom it was used and whether it was patented, then feel free to contact me at any time.
