Hello. I am, in addition, a philatelist.

I began to collect stamps in 1976 when I saw my uncle's collections, he's a specialist of Italian Republic, and since then I always loved these
little pieces of printed paper.

Over the succeeding years my relationship with stamps has evolved, naturally getting some ups and downs, and now I don't regard them anymore as
just beautiful collectibles but also as little bricks to build up a parallel vision of the history of a nation and
a very stimulating field to begin any kind of study.

Some Italian Stamps and Covers

I collect the Postage Stamps of Italy I tend to specialise on some particular periods, issues or topics, such as (obviously more like a scheme than an actual realization):

  • The Postal History of the Pre-Philatelic and of the Philatelic period of some of the Italian States i.e. Kingdom of Sardinia, Kingdom of the Two Sicilies - Naples and Sicily -, Roman States with Romagne and Grand Duchy of Tuscany with Provisional Government, Duchy of Modena, including Lombardy - Venetia.
I am specialised on Tuscany constant and occasional plate flaws and on this page there is just the beginning of my effort in demonstrating that, at least for a few positions in the typographical form, the same clichés/frames were used for the printing both Duchy and Provisional Government Issues (1851-52, 1857 and 1860).

I focus on the Postal History of my native village in Italy, Castiglione del Lago, and I am in search for representative items to mark the various historical happenings in that region in a way to illustrate the transition from Papal States to Kingdom of Sardinia and then to Kingdom of Italy.

  • The Specialised Philately (Plates and different Compositions, Shades, Types and Varieties) of these States, with more attention to the IVth Issuance of Sardinia (the so called " Postage Stamps of Occupation"), Naples and Sicily, Roman States and Romagne.

  • The Postal History and Specialised Philately of the Italian Kingdom (from March 17, 1861), Kingdoms of Vittorio Emanuele II di Savoia (March 23, 1849 - January 9, 1878), Umberto I (-July 29, 1900) and Vittorio Emanuele III (- June 5, 1944).
I also collect Airmail Covers and/or Special Airmail Postmarks on Postage Stamps / Airmail Stamps of the Kingdom of Italy.
  • The Specialised Philately (S.P.) of the Italian Republic, from 1945 to 1961, including the usages of the Definitives of the Serie "Democrazia / Democratica", "Italia al Lavoro" and "Siracusana". I am working on the plate reconstruction of the 100 lire of the Family Issue (plate I and II).
  • The S. P. of the first three Issues of The Netherlands (1852, 1864 and 1867/68) during the Kingdom of Willem III Van Oranje-Nassau and the so called "Cijfer Serie" of 1876 (aardverf-drukinkten = natural printing colours = "a.") and 1894 [synthetische drukinkten = (artificial) synthetic printing colours = "s."].
The Issue "Prinses Wilhelmina met hangend haar" (= Princess W. with hanging hair) of 1891 (a.) /1894 (s.).
  • The Great Britain 1d Penny Black with 'initials' "PB".
Here below on the left is one from Plate 2 (courtesy of Barry - bt56) along with another Plate 2 with lettering "RF".

  • General Principles about Philately and Observation/Conservation Rules,  related philatelic literature and info. sources.
  • As of recent I collect Switzerland. Below are two examples of interesting Swiss items:

  • One of the areas of interest and study of mine is
Fluid Mechanics and Aero-Thermodynamics applied to Turbomachinery
    (dynamic pumps, turbines etc.)

  • These are me and my wife Michelle.

I am living in The Netherlands but originally I am from Castiglione del Lago at the Trasimeno Lake in Italy.

Scent of the time that passed.
Time flies, so the stars and the hair fall.
    Memories which won't remember itself,
move, vanishing scent of nocturnal dreams,
as lights of still, far villages on the hill,
    unreachable, undistinguishable
stared at by eyes in tears.
