Moving from N. California to Arizona in the late '70's after 10 years in the Southeast brought 360 days of sunshine, lots of riding space for my horses, and a myriad of new career and educational opportunities.
While in California a Psychology degree yielded work in biological Research at Stanford Research Institute. As funding dwindled on my project I was faced with the realization that I yearned to pursue new creative outlets. I designed jewelry for 4 years enjoying recognition with one woman shows, juried group exhibitions and stores carrying my creations.
This creative thread has continued through out my life, but later took a back seat to a management opportunity with a large Southwest multi-state luxury Retailer. The fast pace of retail taught me many things about the importance of people skills, customer service, buying for trends, managing inventory and open to buy. Feeling a need for deeper business knowledge I entered Graduate School to pursue a MBA in Business later switching to a MS in Agribusiness.
Doing research for General Mills and other large consumer goods manufacturers gave me insight into a world that spawned my next career move. I became a Headhunter/Executive Search Consultant and thrived in fast-paced high stress niches of consumer packaged goods, technology, video games, and health care for over 22 years.
After learning about eBay from a workshop given by Janelle Elms I was hooked and started selling in January 2005 part time, and by July 2006 left search to pursue eBay full time and continue to do so today with as much passion I felt when my first item sold!
Horses have been part of my life since before I could walk. My Father and I raised my first horse, a half Arabian Quarter Horse gelding from 6 months old to competing in horse shows throughout Northern California. My horse and I were inseparable and I made my college choice close enough to come home on the weekends to ride. He came with me to Arizona and lived until he was 24 years old. A highlight was riding him in the 1981 Rose Bowl Parade.
In the eighties, my Father and I partnered in a small Arabian breeding venture with 3 broodmares having 5 foals born on my property. The bay horse pictured was our second foal, a colt named Kostar as he was a dazzler. He was my favorite, and shared 24 years with me in Arizona passing on Friday 13, 2008. He will be remembered for his huge heart, amazing personality, beautiful confirmation, unique daily rituals, and following me around like a puppy to rub his head on my back! He leaves a huge hole in my heart as losing him signaled an end of an era. Now left when only one horse, the beautiful golden palomino, Gypsy, I cherish all the special memories that will never be forgotten.
My Father died in 1990 of brain and lung cancer, he is pictured here on his beloved Palomino mare, Gypsy who after his death became my trail riding horse.
Arizona’s cultural roots of Native American Indians and Hispanics have influenced my keen interest in representing folk art, jewelry, ceramic collectibles, Day of the Dead, and Our Lady of Guadalupe items to buyers worldwide. I’ve enjoyed my trips to Mexico, and other parts of the world. We are always on the look out for unusual items from other countries and will continue to expand our product lines to meet customer requests.
I continue to expand my creative interests through painting icons, four are pictured here.
Below are my first Day of the Dead paintings. I would enjoy bringing my jewelry designs and painting to eBay as a self-representing artist at some point in the future.
