How this all got started:
About 15 years ago my father-in-law got his first VCR. He had to make some room on his bookshelf, so he cleared out about 100 OLD paperbacks from the early 1940s and 1950s. He handed these to me and said I could have them, or try to sell them and I could keep the money. Nice guy, huh? Well, I went around to all the bookstores in Baltimore and found I was sitting on a goldmine worth about 25 bucks - tops! So I figured it would be better to pack the books up in a box, store them in my office, and maybe I'd get a chance to read them myself sometime. I promptly forgot about them.

About 1-1/2 years ago someone on the rec.arts.disney.parks newsgroup mentioned that this new service - eBay - had lots of Disney stuff that they were auctioning off at really good prices, and that I should take a look. I did, and I bought some stuff (my wife collects Disney pinback buttons, my sons collect Disney stuff, and I collect Disney comics). I searched around the site and found the Books section. Some people were selling Used Paperbacks from the 1940s and 1950s and getting a bit more than the two bits (25 cents) I could have sold them for in the mid-1980s. So I got myself a camera and started listing these books. In about a month and a half I had sold 80 of the 100 books for about $240. Figuring this was pretty good, I located sources of newer used paperbacks and hardbacks, and started listing the books on a more regular basis.

At the time, my oldest son was 12 years old and summer was approaching. I made him a deal - I'd buy the books and pay all the eBay expenses. His job was to take the pictures, crop them, load them on my website, and help me with some of the listings. I'd handle contacting people and the shipping. All the profit we'd make (after taxes) would go towards our next trip to Disneyworld. He took to the idea, and even learned HTML and Java programming, and always had something to fill in the idle, boring times of summer. (A year later, we booked our two-week stay at Disneyworld, paid for by our eBay work).

My Bookselling Philosophy:
I sell pre-owned "reading quality" books on eBay. Occasionally there's a first edition, sometimes a signed copy, and some books could pass for new, but most of my books are good condition used books, the kind you'd buy in a used book store back home. I maintain a low shipping fee of only $2.00 to encourage you to buy more books. And I'm pleased to say that my little "bookstore on the net" has taken off - I'm selling 200 or more books each month to people who enjoy reading.

In early October 1999 I purchased 12 skids (a skid is about 50 boxes) of new hardbacks and paperbacks from a bookstore that was closing down. All of these books are new, and I'll be listing them as well as the used books I've been listing over the past 1-1/2 years. Many of the paperbacks will be sold in lots of 10-20 of the same type (mysteries, romances, westerns, sci-fi, fantasy, etc.). My estimate is that I have about 7500 paperbacks and about 7500 hardbacks in all. This is in addition to the 2000+ used books already in my collection.
