About Wynn Art Studio and Artist, Michelle Wynn
|
|
Michelle is the Self Representing Artist (SRA) at Wynn Art Studio. She served 4 years in the US Army, traveling abroad to countries such as Austria, Germany, France, Italy, Hawaii, and Honduras. Michelle fulfilled her 4 year commitment, received an Honorable Discharge, and persued her life goal of becoming an Artist. She obtained her Bachelors of Fine Arts Degree in Illustration from the Academy of Art College in San Francisco, CA.
Michelle currently works Part Time as a Graphic Artist for a local screen-printer, but continues to do freelance work and teach in her remaining time. Her work has been on display at several national and local art shows as well as galleries in San Francisco CA, Kentucky, South Carolina, and Georgia. Michelle has also had several prints contributed into permanent collections of various museums, particularily her motorcycle artwork. She has also been published in CMYK Magazine, Metro Spirit, The Signal, and various other news articles.
The following are some of the most frequently asked questions about Michelle and her artwork:
- Where does Michelle get her inspiration for her paintings? She says that she draws from "everyday life" and adds (or subtracts) things to give her paintings the realism she desires. She doesn't like to tell the reasons why she painted a particular subject or a story behind the art. She says that "everyone draws their own meanings from the art, just as she draws her own impressions on the canvas itself". In other words "Let the Art Speak for itself !!"
- Why Women and Motorcycle artwork? Michelle was picked to draw 5 commemorative pieces for the Wheels Through Time museum for their exhibit honoring Women and Motorcycles, from 1905 to 1955. Michelle was chosen for this project because she is one of the few female artists that actually rides her own motorcycle. Various editions of Michelle's motorcycle prints may be viewed at Wheels Through Time museum, Barber's Museum (Birmingham, AL), and Charlotte Indian motorcycle dealership (Lowell, NC)
- What type of paint does Michelle use? Michelle paints in acrylic paints, charcoals, pastels, and various other mediums. Although Michelle can paint in oils, she avoids using them for several reasons: (1) Michelle has allergies and asthma, and the smell of strong paints, oils, and perfumes makes it difficult to complete an oil painting in a timely manner. (2) the unused portions of the oil tubes, rags, etc. are harmful to the environment and costly to properly dispose. (3) Studies have shown that Acrylic paints have a life expectancy equal to or surpassing oil paints, are completely safe for humans, animals, and our environment, and they are much easier to work with (less drying time, more consistant colors throughout the market, non-toxic).
- What about framing? Michelle does not normally frame her artwork herself. We out-source our framing to local frame shops. Michelle paints/draws all of her images on Standard Sized canvas/paper. This saves our customers a lot of money, because they will not need to pay for expensive custom sized frames; Our customers can easily visit any Arts & Crafts store and purchase a standard sized frame of their choice OR they can elect to have a frame shop custom matte and frame their artwork just as easy and inexpensively. We prefer not to have prints sold on Ebay matted and framed due to the expense and risk of damage of shipment. It is much cheaper for our customers to purchase the print from us, have it shipped Rolled, in a protective tube, and take it to their local frame shop to pick a matte and frame of their choice.
